My 02 Maxima Project

Alright, I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE with 186k miles. It's automatic and it's been given to me cheap (due to a couple of issues). I want to fix/upgrade as much as I can all by myself.
  1. It's got front and back bumper damage
  2. It's got awful sound system and stock head unit that gets like two
stations


I want to:
  1. Install cold air intake (already have it)
  2. Install new bumper and grill
  3. Install aftermarket speakers, headunit and subwoofers
  4. Replace fuel filter
  5. Replace spark plugs
  6. Clean engine
  7. Clean fuel injectors
  8. Other stuff as I go along

You need to take off intake manifold to change spark plugs in the rear so why not replace the ignition coils as a "preventative" measure...

It's not that hard to take off the UIM, and there is absolutely no need to replace the coil packs as preventative maintenance unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.

And coil packs are not a known problem on the 5.5gen like they are on the 5th gen, that would be like replacing the brakes just because you took a wheel off and have extra money laying around??

Good work. Headlights look awesome. Keep it up. Make sure you fix any isses on the car, then do a full tune up. After that you can mod whatever you want. About coil packs, I would leave them alone if they work. No need to change them.

Yea I fixed some minor issues but the last issue I have is thousands of dollars to fix an oil leak .-.

Next step is audio:
-Alpine 143-BT head unit.
-4 Alpine type s 6.5" speakers
-800w kicker comp vc
-350w ken wood amp hooked up to the 4 speakers
-1100w boss amp for the sub

The audio just went from a 1/10 to 9/10. Added all of the above, and it sounds amazing. I had some issues with the doors and spent a good amount of time hiding the wiring to the trunk.

I wish I could go back and get a new intake but for now this will do.

I can tell there was performance gained though.

Too bad you didnt have a properly working bose stereo system. It sounds great.

As for the injen intake, well its too bad you (or previous owner) didnt do some research before buying it. I was almost swayed to buy it too, then I researched it and saw it was bad. I like the idea of the battery relocation, that might be a fun project for you! I actually just made my own short ram intake with a intake pipe I had sitting around.

And as for the headlights, ive had the same problem with them being nasty and yellow. But they never really had any scratches or anything, they were just really dry. So I actually just grabbed a rag and put some engine oil on it and wiped down the headlights, and they look brand new! Crazy.

Glad you're in the Max game man. These guys are great at answering any questions

Oh and mine leaks alot of oil too. But im just gonna deal with that when I fix my few little problems first.

Sorry for not updating this in awhile. I spent awhile detailing my engine and also experimented with painting my cover. I'm not the best spray painter, but I might sand it down and try again later. (Either that or get another one). I sold my Injen Air Intake and replaced it with a pop charger. I bought a nismo license plate holder, and a nismo oil cap which should be here soon. These are the updated pictures.

If you can tell, I have a gap between the bumper and headlight. I'm going to try and purchase a replacement upper bracket to fix that issue. In that purchase I plan to also get a back left marker light as mine is water logged and the clip is broken.

Where'd you put the 4 channel Kenwood if it's not on the back seat? Trunk? And did you ground them to the same spot?
