Brake Pad Materials

Whats up everyone. This is my question. I recently installed on my max a set of new Raybestos PGPlus Semi-Metallic brake pads to replace my glazed OEMs. Since I installed the pads, I get all kinds of squealing and grinding noises. So I emailed Raybestos to complain about the problem and they told me that the OEM pads are ceramic and I should have replaced them with ceramic. Is this true? Raybestos told me to return the pads for a full credit and get the ceramic version. I plan on doing this, but has anyone else run into this.

Chris

P.S. - When I installed the new pads, I turned the rotors and cleaned all of the brake parts.

i'm no expert, but there was a thread awhile back about brake pads ...

there was a post saying that squealling comes for not greasing the shims I believe ... just do a search for axxis metal master pads and it should turn up ...

Sometimes semi-metallic pads tend to squeek.

I thought the OEM's were organics? I know when mechanics replace them, they tend to be usually organic pads unless you request something different. I know Wagner pads (for teh max that is) are organic. The OEM's might be ceramic.

I used the shims that cam with the pads, but what kind of grease do i use. Just regular grease or is it a special grease for brakes. I've done brake jobs before on other cars and never had to use this grease. The grease u said fixes the squealing, but the brakes make a grinding or like a really low groan sound also. Thanks for the replies, I apreciate the help.

Use the Permatex products for teh brakes. That is one of the best, it should eliminate all squeeling.

Did you have the rotors cut?

I had the rotors turned, only because I had grazing one the rotors, and a very, very slight warp. The warp and glazing was removed.
