Loud rear end clunk

I have a 2001 SE and today it starting making this loud clunking noise form the rear end. Along with this noise is extreme vibration. The clunking is constant as long as the car is in motion and gets worse at higher speeds. There is also a squeaking noise which sounds like its from the rear brakes, I pulled up on the hand brake and the squeaking went away, but as soon as I released it came back. Just as a side note I installed four new rotors and pads. What could this be?

I think you need to revisit every nut and bolt you touched when doing your pads and rotors. I feel sure the cause will be obvious during this process.

Don't drive it until you do this.

Cheers,
Glenn

Hey Glenn, I forgot to mention that I did the brakes in mid August and this issue just started happening yesterday. Do you think it could still be something to do with the brakes? Thanks for your input btw.

Yes, I do. It could take that long for something to loosen up or fail. Even if not from past work, the fault may well be obvious when you get it all apart. Check the wheel bearings and suspension links and bushings while you're at it.

Cheers,
Glenn

I found out it had nothing to do with the brakes, the left rear lug nuts where all lose to the point that they there pushing out the center cap. So no more vibrations or clunking sound. Something similar happened a few years back when I came outside and found my center cap laying on the ground. I am guess someone wanted the wheels but saw the lock and gave up. Thank god I noticed that. Thanks for trying to help out Glenn.

You're welcome. Lugnuts was my first thought. I didn't mention it because I figured you couldn't miss them when starting to access the brakes. Glad you found it.

Next thing, any damage to your wheel or studs?

Cheers,
Glenn

Nope no damage to wheel or lugs. I checked the thread on the lugs and lug nuts and they look fine. Think its time for a security camera though lol.

A gun works better

Stealing stuff likes this needs to be punished with instant exile straight to some ****hole island in the Pacific that you can't escape from.
