Speakers
I've been saving up money to work on my 01 Maxima and was wondering what would be a good brand for speakers, subs and amps? i was told crutchfield is the best to get a system from because they are pretty cheap.
Crutchfield usually offers a fair price and an amazing service. They not only include the product, but everything you need to install it in your specific car. I would chose them.
Here's what I recommend, I've done a lot of audio stuff in my car.
Do not go cheap on too much when you're doing audio if you want a good system. You want to get a headunit with a Equalizer. That will amp all of your speakers. Do not get a JVC headunit. The best choice for Amplifiers is probably Alpine. I have an Alpine 143-BT I got from crutchfield. It was a bit pricey but it amped all of my speakers, has flawless bluetooth and crutchfiled gave me everything I needed to isntall it. It sounded amazing and I still had everything else stock. For your speakers you have a good choice. I personally have some Rockford Fosgate R165 in the back (crisp sound no bass, good if you subwoofers) they were cheap but get the job done and some Pioneers in the front (not sure what they are but they were ~$70 300w max and sound great. That being said, I have some friends with some top notch Polk's and they sound amazing. However my favorite speakers are anything by Focal, or the Alpine Type-S.
For subwoofers, do not go cheap. I went cheap and got kickers and hooked it up to a Boss amp, it was garbage. I switched to an amazing set-up, and I would recommend it over everything in it's price range.
Amp: Alpine MRV M500 $
Subwoofer: Rockford Fosgate P3D4 12" $140-150
Wiring Kit: KnuKonceptz 4g $25-35
Make sure you wire the subwoofer in parallel. (both pos connected by speaker wire, both neg connected by speaker wire, neg from one side hooked to amp, pos from other side hooked to amp).
If you want to eliminate shaking, get some second skin damplifier pro and coat your trunk. For that you're looking at a couple hundred, but it sounds much better. I used some memory foam under the rear panel and between the back seats and anything that could possibly shake. Sounds sooo nice.

I have used pioneer speakers since 1998 and never looked back. Great value for the money.that being said these cars (at least those with the stock Bose)come with 6 1/2 in the front doors and 5 1/4 in the rear doors which you get really nothing out of. 6x9s would have been a better choice. For amps I recommend mtx (I had the road Thunder series for years) once again good for the $. Underpowered car speakers will sound crappy no matter what brand they are.
As for subs I only use JL but i haven't purchased a sub in about 15 yrs so maybe someone else can chime in.
