Evaporator...where to Buy?

Hi Friends,

Well....it looks like i may need to purchase and install an evaporator for my 2003 I-35 (same motor as 3.5 Max)....

I already changed the Compressor (about 2mths ago) and it looks like the Freon has all leaked out.

Chit...ANYWAY (gotta suck it up and move forward)....
I was hoping to find a specialty center that sold them ONLINE.

  • -Where can i purchase a replacement Evaporator for this car?
  • -Also, What other part(s) will i need ?

Help a Brutha out.....(if you can)

Thanks man!

Rockauto has an evaporator ranging from $45 to $95.
What makes you think you need an evaporator. Usually more leaks are related to the condensor from what I have seen. Also, if you are doing A/C work, I highly recommend replacing the dryer also.

I need to replace the same part with my 4th gen. Refrigerant immediatley started leaking around my condensor upon re-charging my low side. Make sure it isnt a line connecting to it before you replace it. Also im not sure if this applies to your car (but im sure it probably does) too, but on 4th gens there is a part that needs to be replaced anytime you work on the a/c system. i forget what its called but someone else will surely comment on what it is.

also like the other member said. rockauto.com is an awesome site that alot of use. not just for our cars but for alot of other cars too. They have multiple parts from different brands that compare prices from low-high. So far everything i have bought from the site has arrived early and was packaged safely.

Hey...thanks Buds.

No...the condensor was changed when i changed the Compressor. It was recommened i do it that way.

Actually, based on a report from another mechanic (next door to mine), the dude sounded like he knew his AC work....he said my NEW (REBUILT) compressor was not working. He said there was Freon in the system, but the compressor was not moving it. EVEN THOUGH the clutch was spending, the gauges did not show any movement of air.

How do you like that (chit). So, in less than 45 days, i'm getting a new (rebuilt) compressor put back in.

This time i am also changing the Expansion Value.
