Wheel fitment...again

I'm looking at getting a set of Gram lights and was wondering if this fitment would be too aggressive (17x9 38mm offset) on my 01 AE. Or what width and offset is advisable.

Not aggressive at all. Are you lowered? What tire size are you planning to run?

wasn't planning on lowering it yet, if I do I was looking at the Illumina/H&R combo.

stock height, but may lower in the future. I was going to get new tires seeing as my tires are bald, was thinking 245/45(40)/17

You should be fine,i had 17x9 +38 with 255/40/17 tires and 15mm spacers on the rear with no rubbing and lowered on H-techs.
