Rear 02 sensor stripped

My mechanic stripped the thread on the exhaust for the rear 02 sensor. Now the new one won't seat itself. What can be done? Tap & Die is not an option as it is too labor intensive.

Tell him to drop the y pipe and have a muffler shop plug it and weld a new bung for the sensor

That's what happens when you force out exhaust pieces.
