2002 Maxima: Passenger Headlight Bulb Out

Hello,

My 2002 Max's headlight bulb has died - that's what they just confirmed - after we noticed it was not on the other day.

The dealer wants $250 to replace it. Can this be done cheaper ? Are there replacement parts or OEM is the way to go - for example is this Phillips bulb ok:
Amazon.com: Philips D2R Xenon HID Headlight Bulb, Pack of 1: Automotive Amazon.com: Philips D2R Xenon HID Headlight Bulb, Pack of 1: Automotive

Thanks - Noela

When mine went out I purchased one at Advance Auto Parts and had no problems. This was about 4 years ago and it's still working fine. But I paid around $100 for the bulb. I don't know about the one your looking at but I would think it should work. Just wear rubber gloves so you don't get the bulb oily from your hands touching the bulb.

easy job

You can get the D2R bulbs just about everywhere these days. The only thing I would add is that replacing them can be a little bit of a pain. I found it actually easier to take the whole headlight assembly off the car and replace it that way. The tricky part is the bulb is held in place by tensioned clips on either side of the spade connectors. You can get one clip on easily and the other can be a bit tough.

Of course you should always disconnect the battery when replacing them.

from my experience check the ballast first. take both headlamps out and swap ballasts. my 02 still has the factory Phillips bulbs but the ballasts went out last year. I picke dup some decent ones off ebay, the optix ballast are real good and come with 2 year warranty. I zip tied mine to the stock ballast location but without the bracket cap....
