01 I30 with serious issues, Good deal or run?
Been looking at this 01 I30 for a few weeks ect. Seller only lists the iacv as the only problem, and thinks im stupid lol. Drove 45 minutes to look at and test drive the car only to find more issues. Front seats shot, center console shot, both are minor issues though. Cranks up car is very loud/exhaust work needed. needs 4 tires and a rim. Everything works inside. Upon driving I immiedately noticed the auto transmission slip or delay between 2nd and 3rd, also the iacv is bad. Im no expert but it seemed to miss a gear or shift into od too early at only 40mph. Came to a light and the gas pedal was impossible to push so just coasted bak to shop where i popped the hood and manually moved the throttle, seemed very hard to push but it moved. Checked tranny fluid and was disappointed by how dark brown it was. Long story short car is listed at $1350 I offered $1100 before i figured out there was a transmission prob. I was going to buy it and drive it back home or take another test drive before i bought it a longer distance. Dealer said he recommends not driving the car back home only a 45 or 50 minute drive. I put 2 and 2 togather, did more research, must be something wrong with the tranny. Would you buy this car? or offer a lower price.
In the 5th gens, the IACV can fry the ECU. If it hasnt already done so on this car, it must be close. This car's tranny has significant issues. The sticky throttle suggests alot neglect on the engine. Run, don't walk, away.
yeah i think im gonna leave this one alone, cant imagine putting that much money into a neglected car and possibly finding more problems, its no wonder they were trying to rush me to buy it.
I wouldn't take that car if they gave it to me. One big issue = get it cheap. A billion big issues = RUN
He won't be able to get more than $500 (scrap money) for that car in its current state. Clearly nobody has ever done maintenance on that car and beat it hard.
I bought my 02 I35 with full service records from new with 172K on it for $2750 three years ago. There are tons of great cars around 3-4K
