Reached ludricrous speed today. 148mph

I am blessed to be living in Germany and had the most gorgeous day to go running about while traffic was calm just after the morning rush. I hit the A6 heading East from Kaiserslautern toward Mannheim and got a great stretch of 3 lane wide open flat inan unrestricted speed zone to bury some gears. The results:
Garmin GPS top speed on the log read: 238 km/h = 147.886 mph
My Phone SpeedView phone app log read: Max: 148 mph.
My maxima's speedo read: ~145 I was a little focused on the road to really study it, but knew I was well over 144 and have heard these can be off a bit especially with tire size changes.

Wind Noise was crazy especially at the sunroof header. Motor didn't seem to care about what was going on. I held that top end for about 10-15 seconds before I ran up on an incline and started losing some speed and then merged to two lanes where it's just not as safe to drive that fast passing trucks etc. The car loves doing 100mph -Cruise will not lock in above 90 though!!

I proceeded to drive the Maxima hard for the next two hours with a few stops (classic car shopping) while taking her down the A65 to Annweilier and back home through the twisties of 48. This car is so much fun when passing on the 2 lane roads out in the woods. Cornering suffers with the stock setup of course, but the ride is pleasant.

Temp: ~60*F

My Maxima: Mostly stock 2002 SE 6 speed. Greddy Muffler, perhaps form the cat-back. K&N Cone Filter in from of the MAF. 16" MB aluminum rims with 225/55R16 Cooper Zeon RS3-A wrapped on them. Not bad for 171k on the odo.

Phone app: The average was 79, it took a while to get a clean shot and the log was still on counting the stopped time. ugh.

Cool! Make sure to check your oil level to see if the engine burned up any going that fast.

I floored my 03 down a nice hill in my town a few years ago and got to my highest of 135mph at the bottom, was a nice rush. Soon as i got to the flat straight part of the road just after hitting the max began encountering massive torque steer so slowed down steadily but quickily, having slightly misaligned wheels didnt help.

Yea i tried for a precat gut, put car om ramps, went under, bolts were rusted and seized, gave up. Had enough trouble getting catback system on. Got rusted out small piece of lower heatshield off, literally tore off by hand, was loose and ratting. Thats all the progress i got there lol.

Well, when even the idiots in Germany are much smarter than your average US citizen, and to a lesser extent, smarter than Canucks...good things can happen. Of course, aren't you Ice Westerners kinda like US citizens (I know some kids from Edmonton)?

Alberta's its own Texas of Canada. its just people in this place cant drive, last weekend i passed probably a dozen people on the right on the highway. parking in Germany is nuts though, crammed with 2 inches of space from the front and rear bumpter

i thought the car would have a speed governor, or is it just in the states? My max would not go above 119 mph.

Maybe on a flat sfc but you can go faster with gravity on your side

I also have torque steer after getting the alignment fixed, common with fwd cars with a good amount of torque when accelerating fast from a stop. Gotta grip the damn wheel because the car likes to pull hard to one direction, its not a myth dude.

No that was probably because of the bad alignment. But my point is i still have torque steer in general especially from 0-60 but thats normal.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought that our cars were governed to 130-135mph.

From what I understand, the 6-speed SE with leather/roof has no governor. I don't know why.

I've had my modded 02 (US spec) over 150MPH on a flat road with no governor kicking in.

My 6 speed Maxima is US Spec for those wondering and has no governor. I've seen references to it being drag limited which is what I believe I reached. I've read that 145 is the drag limited speed, but I say it's at least 148! My Max is very stock -not lowered and has some covers missing under the front bumper. The cats are in tact to the best of my knowledge, I replaced the front which was gutted and I get no SES codes any more so I suspect the rear was never butchered. I added 1/2 a quart of oil prior to heading out just to be safe as the oil lamp would flicker a bit on startups the past few days which tells me its getting low. The Engine temp indicator never moved indicating an overheating condition - mind you I sustained speeds over 100mph for a solid 30 minutes ranging upwards of 125 as traffic allowed this whole trip, so the cooling system seems legit for this car.

Yes, German roads and drivers and much better than the states, but they will change lanes in to yours to pass with little regard for your approach speed. They do make an effort to speed up and get out of your way at least.

One reason Germans are better drivers is because it costs them about $2200 to get a drivers license. Thus, they value it much more highly than Americans do. They also keep the original license they receive and pride themselves on how long they have had it in their wallets.

The only maximas that are governed are the gle, gxe, the se's are not governed. The auto or manual don't make any difference, just the type of maxima classings they have.

The sad part is it is governed at 127mph and the car is an upscale but the funny part is it the muffler from the nissan skyline gt-r. I was reading up on a car magazine off of car and driver.
