What is this piece between intake manifold and throttle?

I was trying to clean my throttle body today. After removed throttle, I found this metal piece between throttle and intake manifold. what is it?

Thanks.

Also, I found there is quite a lot oil sitting behind throttle, like a little oil pond there. Gosh! why is there so much oil at intake manifold?

Phenolic thermal spacer, to lower thermal temperature. Try to log on at nwpengineering.com. VQ30DE engine you can clean and move the butterfly because it's mechanical. For VQ35DE engine , do not move the butterfly because it is an electronic throttle. If happen you move it you need to reset the ecu by using the Consult II of Nissan Stealership or do it yourself by performing the throttle relearn procedure (use a stopwatch). The oil is coming from the pcv valve because of the failure of secondary piston ring. To prevent this blowby oil contaminating the intake manifold you need to install oil catch can. I recommend ADD W1 oil catch can at ebay, used 5w30 Castrol GTX

Thanks for your input. Will a better quality PCV valve help reducing the excessive oil in intake manifold?

No, the main problem is the failure of poor quality secondary piston ring releasing blowby oil specially during high rpm. Two main project that you need to do to maintain the engine. Install oil catch can and gut both precat near the firewall, near the radiator and install 02 nonfouler to the two secondary 02 sensor to get rid of SES light.

You're taking a real risk messing with the TB. There are countless threads about people needing to fork over $100+ to the stealership since their idle was messed up afterwards.

Phenolic? I'm pretty sure that is a metal piece....

Mine is a mechanical VQ30DE, this is not the first time I took it off, so far, not messed up yet

Thanks Colt149. So far I don't have a SES light yet. will start with an oil can.

That is not an NWP spacer. I have the spacer kit on my car. The NWP TB spacer is one flat piece, it doesn't have no tube/pipe part on the back of it going inside the actual throttle body like what I see in the video...

Not sure what that is, but doesn't look very good considering that pipe piece on the back of it is making your TB opening smaller.

it is some metal stock spacer that is OEM. I took mine out many, many, many miles ago without issue. It seemed like an air restriction to me so I moved it.

I think it's more to direct air to where it needs to go.
