Front wheel bearing brands

Hey guys,

I need to change my wheel bearings. I've used Timken, but Autozone doesn't carry this in stock. I'd like to be in and out in a day so I'll stick with off the shelf item.

So far, my options are:

1. MOOG hub and bearing assy (Advance Auto Part) http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/moog-518516
2. Napa brand Altrom (NSK). http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...716_0284400430
3. National http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0055&ppt=C0337
4. Precission. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0055&ppt=C0337

I'm not concern about the price different or whether it is hub + bearing or just individual bearing. I guess I should also check the dealer. i just need to to get it done fast (DD car).

Any experience with those brand above? Good/Bad?

Thanks

The NAPA brand have been good for me in the past. We also use them at a shop I work for on and off and we're not a cheap shop.

I can't comment on the others other than to say the Ni$$an parts will cost several times the price.

RockAuto WJB WA518516 {#518516} $23.79
If you look, you'll find this as the same number for MOOG $75.99

Just to show the difference in price, the Moog at Advance is $127.67 compared to RA @ $75.99.

Use this code in where did you hear about us and receive an additonal 5% discount on parts: 4094635428825197

I have use Dura brand from RA on the wheel bearing alone, cost like 15 bucks, I have not had any issues. I like Timken but I noticed it stamped made in China. So find it questionable quality since China doesn't have very strict quality control so I kind of stay away from it.

O'reilly and Autozone both sell the National brand. It is a good one.

Decided to go with Napa brand Altrom. It is actually very good NSK bearing. I've used their bearings at work and it is high quality. it is made in Japan.

Dennis, would you choose National rather than Moog?

NSK is the supplier for honda last I checked (so yep, good quality).

I went to the junkyard a bought a whole knuckle LOL. Car had 200k, but the bearing was very tight, so it must have been replaced already.

I don't have any real preference between the 2. they are both good as far as I'm concerned.

As you may recall, the op wanted Timken brand but it wasn't available. I mentioned national because that brand was available at the auto parts store in the op's area. At this point, I don't remember if Moog was one of the brands available.

Install went well with NSK bearing. Napa sells 2 brands, NSK and SKF. SKF was supposed to be good brand too, but it is made in China. My passenger side was timken which was made in Korea.

It could be lower QC for aftermarket vs oem parts

Unless it's physically made at a different plant (like China vs Japan), then there's no reason it should be any different. Valid point, but his box does say made in Japan (I'd check the bearing itself to be sure lol).
