FSTB Didn't FIT !

Well Guys my courtesy nissan front strut tower bar does not fiot my 2002 Maxima GLE.. The reason my strut bar did not fit was because of the welded bracket for my airbox.. Any ideas for another strut bar that will fit my car? Please let me know...

You have to cut some off of that bracket to make it fit. About 1/4" if I remember correctly. That's what I had to do. There is a webiste somewhere that shows you what to do.

Re: FSTB Didn't FIT !

Sounds like you might have gotten a 4th generation FSTB. I purposely got one of those due to price and simply cut away pat of the airbox beacket as has been shown by others on the board. If you don't want to get involved with this, I suggest you call them back and make sure they sent the right one for your car.

I seriously doubt that the model of car makes a difference, just the year. Try a search...or e-mail/search out bigdogjonx on this forum. I got a photo of what was needed from him, but can't find the original doc...just my hardcopy. Not sure if there are any that fit without some modification...if anyone does, please help her!

Emax was able to fit it on his 2k2. I doubt if the hack BigDogJonx did with the 4th gen would work given the 2k2 has less clearance (i think it's the manifold that's blocking the way) thus why even the Stillen pre-2k2 bars don't fit.

Chances are you didn't get the 5th gen bar.

Thats right, the bar fit's 100 % perfectly, no if and's or but's about it.

It's not the bar that's wrong it's the installer, unless you some how bought the wrong bar I highly suggest that you never try working on your any car again. It's the easiest thing in the world to install.

I HIGHLY dow't GLE's are any different, if they were it would be well known by now. The thing different between a GLE and a SE is softer shocks and that's about it mechanicaly it mechanicaly. Softer shocks will not effect anything from fitting on..

Follow this link and look at the pic of the Strut tower on my 2002 SE. Now look at it and tell me if your "GLE" is any different, and if it is, what's different about it?
There is a braket on my car too(as seen in the pic), if this is whats causing the confusion sheesh. You have to put the bar in on a slight angle and then line the holes up with thestrut tower studs.

Tell me if the link does not work and double click on th pic for a blown up image(to see the details better).

fit

Did your strut towers have a black ring on top originally? If so, keep the black ring under the brace on the right side. This will raise the strut brace just enough to clear the bracket which is getting in the way. That was the only way the Courtsey bar would mount correctly on my 2000 I30. (some have this black ring and others don't for some reason)

i hammered my whole brace down to be flush with the car, there is just one raised part near the bracket. but for the most part, everything is just fine, and it still functions as it should. no need to worry, just work it a little.
