Be aware of your surroundings...

I just did an oil change on my Maxima, and almost ran into a BIG issue. I was on the ground removing the oil filter and kicking my feet around. Just before that, I screwed the cap on my oil jug because I didn't want things getting in there. Well guess what, just after that, I kicked the jug over because I wasn't aware of where it was. Thank God I put the cap on or that would have been a HUGE mess to clean up and a waste of $25 (I know what it's like to have over 4 quarts spill over the place, double gasketed my oil filter on my old car and it all went in the garage. Big hassle).

Always expect the worst things to happen when working on a car, you'll see things in a whole different way. Just my 2 cents.

Don't feel bad, almost everyone I know has done that at least once. In fact, it happened to me on my wife's Ford just a few months ago. I swear gaskets were held in place more securely on the filters years ago. I never used to have to check for that.

Hahaha it blows big time. And the worse thing was, I didn't catch it until later, so it was running for a good 30 seconds with half a quart of oil in it... It took me the rest of the day to clean all that oil up. But guess what, every time I do an oil change, I know what to look for now .
