Plug Not Firing

I just replaced the ignition coil condenser and the number for spark plug and ignition coil. That's what the codes indicated was wrong with the car. But another plug isn't firing now. I'm about to replace all of the ignition coils. Is there anything else that can cause the car to do that that I should be aware of before I go replacing all of my coils?.

Have you replaced the plugs yet?

What coils you have have? The ones with or without the grey dot? The grey dot are the ones upgraded for the car years back

Yeah, the plugs have been replaced.

I don't know what new coils I have. I'm waiting for them to come in the mail tomorrow. I'll check them when the arrive. My others are probably the stock coils.

ECU Throwing Lots of Codes

2001 Maxima, 165k
One plug isn't firing--cylinder 4. I've replaced the coil and plug in that cylinder, but it's still not firing.

Okay, so here's a picture of the check engine codes coming up now:

Is this a normal problem that throws all of those codes or is this a less common problem? Any suggestions?

I'm about to replace all of the ignition coils and see if that does the trick. Looks like I'll need to replace one O2 sensor, too.

The P0325 KS is a one trip DTC right? The KS fails then trips the code . If you clear it may not trip again. It still is bad even though it won't trip a CEL.
You may have coolant leaking from the nipple mounted under the lower intake

I wouldn't bother replacing all the coils. A bad one in one cylinder won't cause a misfire on another one. You'll just be wasting your money. If the coils have a white dot or circle on the top then they're the updated versions. Many of the 3.0 cars came with weak coils that were prone to failure.

You may be looking at an injector problem in #4. Too much fuel will cause a misfire and may have also damaged the o2.

What did the spark plug look like when you pulled it? I'd run it then pull #4 and another one to compare them. You could also swap injectors to see if the problem migrates.

The P1168 can be caused by the o2 failing.

The knock sensor code is probably unrelated to the misfire.

Thanks for the input.

I think the misfire is actually directly causing the knock sensor code because the engine runs very rough as a result. Cylinder #4 wasn't firing at all, so my gas mileage was 3x worse. Engine was shaking a bit because of it, setting off the knock sensor code.

The O2 sensor is either because I got a low-quality O2 sensor or it's shorting out or a wire's cut. There's no signal at all from the O2 sensor. If it were just reading wrong, there'd still be a signal of some kind.

I replaced all the coils. Only $80. So I figure I got the cheap Chinese crap, but at least they work...for the moment. I'm clearing the codes now and will check them again soon to see if anything comes up. When the coils go out again, I'll find the ones with the white dots next time. Thanks for that info. That's very good to know.

I just had to replace the transistor array in the computer and a fuse and the IACV to fix a known issue with these cars and the codes, as well as some symptoms, were what identified that problem. I figured maybe these codes might be the same way.

Thanks!

-Brian

So far, no codes now that I replaced all of the coils and plugs. I do need to do an idle reset though. It idles too low.

Well, so far all of the codes are gone since I put the new coils in. They're not the ones with white dots on them unfortunately. I'll get those next time.

Thanks!
