I have a 2000 and have the stock rims on it. I want to keep it stock and need to know what would be a good tire 225 50 17.

sub 100.00 tires general gets a great review from tire rack
the kumho is decent too

I recently bought yokohamas from amazon free shipping, made them the logical choice

local shop mounted and balanced with stem for 12.00 each they matched walmarts mount and balance prices

You are wrong!! hehe, the 2001 SE model became standard with the 17 but optional on GLE and GXE. The 2000 model year was available as Optional on the SE trim. as for tires, I recommend Kumhos, I am on my third set, had no complaints with them, they are very good tires for all season and moderately priced. My first two set I got them at Discount tires, but they no longer offered them so I got them at tire rack and cheap for a set less than 400 bucks. You can find them at Walmart.com Tirerack.com or TireBuyer.com They are pretty good places to get better than decent tires.

From my own experience:
  • Buy at America's Tire - it's cheaper then Tirerack because their prices include installation.
  • Don't buy cheap tires - they don't last. In the end, the cheap tire is more expensive than the Michelins, Bridgestones, or Continentals. I only buy tires labeled as "BEST" by AmTire, avoid the "GOOD" and "BETTER" categories.

I usually buy my tires from Discount Tire Direct on eBay. I know what you're thinking but it's just America's Tire direct warehouse store, it's just on eBay. I've been running the Milestar MS932 all season on my Max's for a couple of years. Everytime I get them installed (at America's Tires) they always compliment how nice the tires are! Here's the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-235-45-17-MILESTAR-MS932-SPORT-45R-R17-TIRES-/310901757851?hash=item486330579b:g:0okAAOSwJ7RYXEa a&vxp=mtr

I've had good luck with Kumhos. They're Michelin-like tires for much less.

I don't buy Chinese tires. Replaced the tires on my 2000 with 215/55R-16 Yokohama Avid Ascend from Tire Rack. Made in USA!

Check your local used tire shops!!

Just got a full set of used Michelins for $280 out the door. New woulda cost me a solid $720!! Upgraded from my factory 16s to 17s. Shaved almost 2 pounds off of the wheel weight and they're a full 1" taller than the factory size. The Michelins will be a hell of a lot quieter and softer than the noisy Coopers I've got on there. They're in the garage. Waiting on some lug nuts to show up Tuesday so I can get them on. Taller tire and less rolling resistance will hopefully get me 1 mpg more. Wishful thinkin, though.

The people at Discount Tire can be real ****** when it comes to doing something you need that violates the policies written by their lawyers. I got stuck having to buy two new tires I didn't want because I went there to have one flat tire fixed. They're also NOT cheaper than TireRack, and many of their better tires are now labeled with Discount-exclusive names so you can't compare pricing. TireRack isn't as convenient as simply going to a one-stop tire store, but I'll never go back to the bastards at Discount.

They sold me on Aspen Touring (Sumitomo) and they've been excellent! They tried selling me on the Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires. I went for the Aspen Touring because it's 60000mile warrant.
What conditions are ya driving In? Get tread for winter + summer roads.

Cheng-Shin is the parent company of aspen aka maxxis, they are made in taiwan
So no, Sumitomo is not the parent company of "aspen"

ps I run sumitomos on my Vette, and for the money they're a great summer tire

I'm seeing Sumitomo rubber made in Thailand
they're cracking along the sidewalls a bit after just three years but do all tires crack up after three years?
always check your spare too
Nissan recommended Nexen to me. I guess nexen is the OE.
I'd go with BF GOODRICH next time

No way did Nissan put that junk on Maximas, at least not 5th gen. I'm pretty sure the OEM tires were Toyo.

You're not doing yourself any favors. The best tires for a street Corvette are Goodrich TAs. That's been true from the C3 forward.

Totally agree with Jackman! I've had plenty of issues with Sumitomo tires! They all wear fast, dry rot, and handle like crap when wet!

I don't think so .... I am the original owner of my 2000SE, and my car came with Bridgestone Potenzas RE92. Decent tires, but both the Bridgestone Potenza RE960 and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 are significantly better. I also used two less expensive tires - the Falken Zieh 512 and the Avon - both junk tires, did not last, and very expensive in terms of $$$/mile, as neither lasted past 18k miles.
