P0430 Code On then Off Then On Again
P0430 Code On then Off Then On Again
Hi,
About six months ago I purchased a 2001 Maxima with 170XXX miles. It passed emissions and after driving it for several weeks it gave a p0430 code. After researching the code on this site and learning it was a bank 2 pre-cat not functioning properly I chose to leave it alone as it was not effecting the drivability of the car or the MPG in a noticeable way.
Several weeks ago I accepted a job transfer from Colorado to Wisconsin. I checked the fluids and drove the car across the country with no problem, and of course the light was on the entire drive. Halfway through the trip I checked the fluids and things were fine. I arrived and had to start work immediately. One morning driving the car the light was off. I drove the car for several more days with the light off. Then i checked the fluids and found it was about a quart low on oil and the antifreeze level in the reservoir was low. I topped these fluids off and a day later the light came back on.
My question is could the low oil level for some reason have caused the SES code to go off? Or was it a change in elevation? Or is it just coincidence? I am sure there are more pressing help topics but this code bugs me.

It seems that your bank 2 pre-cat is bad, or about to go bad. If the P0430 code stays, or if the associated monitor is only "incomplete", you will almost certainly not pass the emission test next time around (definitely not here in California).
There are plenty of threads on the subject of how to deal with this problem. Good luck !
Most likely, just coincidence.
