harmonic balancer failed.

i'm reading it's sorta a common thing to break.

The belt was squealing alittle in the morning and then stopped.
it did it again after i got off work so it was nice and hot.
Really strange so i look at it and the rubber was like 40% separated wobbling like crazy.

just wondering this has happened to you.

put that to the list of common **** that breaks on 5th gens.

fans
water pumps
motor mounts
alternators
harmonic balancer
valve cover gaskets
oil pan gaskets/seals

i'm thinking now that the vq is a rattly little b1tch.

Yeah they put all the money into things like, a triple forged crank, things like that.... that's why we can do things like in my signature.

But supporting items didn't get the love.

is a triple forged crank supposed to be good or what?
and if it's forged how do they re-forge it two more times?

Yeah, focussed on the big things which I appreciate.

but I wouldn't say the smaller things are unreliable. The fans, water pumps, alternator, harmonic balancer, and gaskets I don't think are common problems. All the things that have went bad in my 2000 have been quite a bit past what would have been expected on other cars, except for the brakes and coils.

The 03' on the other hand....

I just changed the valve cover and oil pan gasket but they were prob over due, honestly I think what's more common with these are rust more specifically electrical problems also rear calipers tend to seize also changed fuel filter and fuel assembly unit but still oddly enough my fuel gauge still doesn't work I think it's electrical oh yeah timing chain tensioners are a big common thing to go the tensioners will come loose causing the chain to rattle. I'm in the middle of trying to take out my seized parking brake cable out it's not going the best
