Car engine blew so I took it to Nissan, but when I got it back this piece was missing. Anyone know what it is. It's under the engine cover on the right side. Had to move my phone around to get the picture. Looks important.

Nothing goes there. It's probably used for another application or possibly in the manufacturing process. My guess is another application in a different car.

As JVG says - nothing goes there. Look at it. It is corroded and dirty. It's never been used.

It is a second coolant thermostat. And additional passage made for the 00-01 VQ 30dek engine. It is later cast into the 3.5 DE blocks including the 350Z.

If a person opens it up in the 3.5 block and bolts the dek coolant stuff on . you then have a better cooled 3.5.

I guess they started to do this on the 3.5 and decided to save the money.

Second pic shows the thermostat on the right side and the arrow on the left shows the hose and the aluminum connector is connected to that. Then that bolts into the 4 screw holes he has shown in his pic

So what is in the hole right now blocking it off? And you need the DE-K coolant piping to install the second thermostat?

Thin layer of aluminum, maybe 1/8 to 3/16. Yes you need the dek pipe.

drill the center ,not deep that could be bad. then use this. dipping it in PB blaster to stop it from loading up with aluminum.Put it on a good dremil.

It will cut very fast as long as you keep it oiled. Then when your done flush the engine .

350z guys found out about this and were doing it like crazy.

ok, here is the complete setup. It is nasty looking off the engine i took out.
People do not take care of their cars.
And then they complain about the results

The end where the radiator hose goes on is pretty nasty. The car probably never had the antifreeze changed.
