JUst hit 250,000 MIles in my I35

Just rolled over 250,000 miles in my 2002 I35 and I am proud to say I never thought it would make it there. With the stories ive heard about this vq35 engine I honestly thought it wouldnt last very long. I bought the car 3 years ago, and cleaned it up, it had 8 codes on the dash/check engine light. I will say ive had my share of minor problems like water pump, and exhaust pre cats needing to be replaced, which i just gutted the front pre cat last week, and lucky to not have a check engine light lol. I bought the car at 181,000 miles which is alot of miles, but ive driven nissans with much higher mileage and very reliable. Yes the car requires more attention than some other cars but hey its all apart of keeping the car running in top shape if you want to continue driving it. Ive seen alot of them in the salvage yards here. I also have a large collection of coils and sensors and mafs just in case. But has been a great car so far.

Wow, I'm surprise it managed to make it with the 3.5, since I heard horrible things about the first generation VQ35 engine on the Maxima/I35 with the oil burning and taking out the cats. thought engine would die by 150k miles. But seem like it ran good at 181k when you got it. Well congrats on getting that much mileage on it.

Yeah It does use oil but not as much but enough to keep an eye on the level between oil changes usually every 1500 miles id have to add a quart. Other problems have been normal maintanence items.

thanks man i love mine also lol, and if it wasnt for the org, i probably would not have driven it this long. Id say the only major repairs were the exhaust and water pump.

Congrats on the milestone. I'm not too far behind you with my 02. Just rolled 230,000.

The 3.5 cars do seem to be hit and miss for getting a good one. I can't say I've had any major issues with mine. I've done a lot of work on it but it's been upgrades and wear items.

I think the heaviest work has been replacing the front and rear main seals at about 200,000. That's common for any car and now it's perfectly dry underneath. I did swap the tranny to get rid of the 3rd gear crunch but I could have lived with it. If I wasn't able to upgrade to HLSD at the same time I wouldn't have worried about it.

yeah man been traveling alot lately in it. Replaced the oil cooler housing seal and the oil pan because i stripped the bolt and put liquid gasket around it. Ive yet to deal with the 02 spacer on the front pre cat, I just turn the light off when it comes on. And def watch the oil level everyday.

Wow that's impressive! My '04 is at 248k miles now. Same oil burning problem, but it's needed very little in maintenance other than tires and valve cover gaskets. I must've got lucky since I only paid $2,000 for it a year ago lol.

Yeah I bought mine nearly 3 years ago for about $1500 with 180k miles on it. Def needed a little tlc, But i knew it was a good highway car because the first day i bought it, i drove it an hour down the freeway at high speeds and the air blew ice cold. It was loud because of an exhaust pipe rusting and one of the precats had came apart in the rear. Let it sit while doing small tune ups and work. I was so happy i bought it and I happend to stumble upon it while looking at a lexus es 300. But comparing the two the i35 was better in terms of power, features ect and it was newer than the lexus i was looking at. Id buy another one but has to be rust free. Currently looking at a g35 though as my i35 is slowing approching 280k.

'00 Bought a year ago with 249k miles and now it has 306k. The car was $400. I know I need to sell it but it's hard to let go.

I'm about to pickup a one owner 2002 SE with 55k miles, never hit and always garaged - 6 speed to boot!
I currently drive a 2000 SE Meridien pkg that is rusting, auto tranny but has BOSE and everything working.
This should be fun.

Wow wish I can find an 02 with that kind of mileage. I knew someone that bought an 03 maxima gle with 147k on it. Ran quiet and good no rust ect. But it too used oil and seemed alot more than my i35.

I brought my 2000 into the body shop because a tree crushed the roof, he was willing to work on it because he knew the Infiniti was a good car

They look very similar.
