Grinding? Noise While Accelerating
Grinding? Noise While Accelerating
Recently out of nowhere, my car has developed a grinding sort of sound when accelerating. If you mildly give it gas, once it hits a certain RPM, there's a rubbing/buzzing/grinding noise that's heard for less than a second and goes away. Sounds like a heat shield. No shake in the car, no power loss, nothing. Just the noise. No work has recently been done to cause a noise, so I'm not sure what broke to cause this. Comes from the front, driver side. It has gotten really cold, 40's and 30's, so maybe something just gave way. I looked under the car and didn't see anything loose or hanging off
Mine does that, too. Sounds almost like a sheep...baaaaa..baaaaa. Mine does it in cooler temps as well, and also at specific throttle or rpms too.
I think it's an exhaust shield of some sort. Pretty annoying.
Make sure it's not your motor mount, though. Mine are disconnect so that's out of the question. The mounts can ruin your ecm so make sure it's not that. You don't want that problem.

Yep , I’ve got my front mount disconnected so there shouldn’t be any issues there. It’s going in during the week of Thanksgiving to have some suspension noise checked out too, so I’ll have him check this noise out too. It’s too cold for me to be working on my car now haha.
Yeah, that sounds like a loose heat shield or other component.
Crawl under the car with a rubber mallet and start hitting things. Exhaust, suspension etc... The rubber mallet will vibrate components without the "clang" of a metal or even wooden hammer. I've found lots of vibrations over the years doing this.

It almost sounds like a motor running if I’m honest. Like the ABS pump doing a self check when you first start driving. Because it only happens when you give it moderate throttle, it’s very controlled.
However, a lot of suspension noise has also surfaced, so at this point, I’ll let someone else take a look.
