P0335 Code

Hey I have a 6 speed 2002 Maxima that’s having trouble starting up. When I checked the code for it, it says the P0335 code Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit. I checked the wiring and the grounds, power, and signal wire is good. The crankshaft position sensor itself is brand new but still having the problem. Sometimes when I drive it and hit a bump the tach goes up and down and the car is jerky. I’m a little confused on why it’s still doing that and why I still have the code. Any suggestions would help a lot. Thanks.

Did you replace the crankshaft sensor because of this same exact problem or a different problem? Did you get a Nissan sensor or an aftermarket brand?

Since the engine runs, the ECU is getting a signal from the sensor. But the signal is evidently somewhat intermittent. What you might have is a situation where the voltage level from the sensor is borderline. You would have to hook up an oscilloscope to find out what the voltage level is. I'm going to assume that you don't have one. Very few people do.

Aftermarket sensors don't work well with the Maxima, so replacing the sensor with a Nissan sensor is strongly suggested.

Bad or dirty connections in the wiring can cause the voltage level of the signal to be reduced and this would cause the error. Overall, you probably have look over everything with extreme attention.

The crankshaft position sensor is a sensor from Autozone. It did have this problem previously with the old sensor. When I checked my voltage for the signal (white) wire, it was 0.021 volts key on engine off. The power was at 12.23 volts and the ground was good. I saw a YouTube video on it and tried to see if there are any short to grounds with a test light. There was none. Are my numbers off or could it potentially be other things? And where can I find an OEM crankshaft position sensor?

RockAuto sells OEM Hitachi sensors. We recommend replacing the cam(2) & crank sensors together, even if there isn't a code for them yet, since they're all weak points on these cars.

OEM sensors

Are the OEM sensors necessary? What I mean is, could using Autozone Crankshaft position sensors really be the issue? It’s really puzzling how this is happening... Today it happened again when I hit a bump the RPM gauge was swinging up and down with the car jerking.

For some reason they don't carry the hitachi, at least for now, on my 2000.

They used to, but I've seen more of these crankshaft threads and been looking and they don't have them for my year. Hope that changes....
