Wheel bearing replace
If I have a sealed bearing do I still need wheel seals?
|
I might be misunderstanding your question but I just replaced the front wheel bearings and there were no other seals to deal with. The new bearings will have new seals installed. Are you doing the work yourself?

i think i need bearings, i have this speed dependant humming and its getting louder, what made you change your fronts? wear and tear? i replaced my rear passagner corner in the last 12 months, and hearing that awful groan again !
i have had 20mm spacers on the back for 160k miles, and 10mm on front for 80k miles, so in my case i blamed the exaggerated wear and tear on the spacers after 160k |
Noise, like you described. I did mine the hard way w/ a 3 pound hammer. A shop quoted me $75 to press the old ones out and the new ones in. If you listen real close you can hear it over the road noises in the video in this post: https://maxima.org/forums/5th-generation-maxima-2000-2003/365289-5th-gen-i-am-new-here-but-have-question-thread-441.html#post9187698

Thanks dude! i am pretty sure thats what I got. i am afraid of which ones though now, i hope its not the one I just replaced, im guessing you did aftermarket considering you rebuilt yourself? i am wondering if aftermarket i replaced 12 months ago already is going...

it was my rear driver side bearing, i did the rear passanger about 12-14 months ago, makes more sense now! man its intersting how used to problems you can get, the car is great again and i forgot how smooth a regular driving car is !
can't be sure but i am at 244k, and have had 20mm rear spacers for about 150k miles, i would guess they may have helped shorten the life of the bearings...but hard to say at this age ! |
