Don't do it, the AE auto shifter is not plug-n-play. It requires a good deal of work to get it on, especially if you do not have a Dremel or RTX. It took me 8 hours (yes 8 hours!) of sanding in an attempt to get the shifter on...no go.

Decided to order a whole new shift unit (and I'm not the only .Org member that ended up doing this) for $180 and replacing the whole shift unit and shifter.

If you are a master sculptor/craftsman and you feel that a Dremel/RTX is an extension of your finger tips, then perhaps you can handle this mod, but I warn you, it is not plug-n-play.

What's up...I have an AE maxima and had a hard time takin off the AE shift ****. I spent about 45 min. messing with it. I broke it in the process. I was planin to use it in the future but....oh well. On non AE's they're rubber but the AE shift ****, it's plastic. Just get a really nice aftermarket **** with that money instead, unless you MUST HAVE to have the AE ****. I have a RAZO **** and love it....

Originally I try to take it off safely with a cloth and vice-grips but it just ripped up the leather. Just your hands too will not suffice...as you probably know this already. I just cracked the bottom of the **** with the vice-grips. Just squeeze until the plastic cracks, then yank it off. At least that how did it. If anybody did it using a different method...let me know. (no pun intended here)

You do NOT, I repeat, do NOT simply unscrew the old one and put on the new one....trust me on this. From one Maxima owner to another, this was the worst decision, in terms of mods, I ever did!

I think these guys are talking about the manual shifter, not the automatic.
