Acceleration problem...(solved)?

Hey buds,

This week, i noticed my battery wasn't 'cranking' as strong as previous,...and today, driving home, the car lost acceleration. FIRST i thought MAF but now i'm thinking battery problems!

???

Does the battery have anything to do with acceleration ?

PS. i just went out to crank the car, and the battery is 'shur nuff' ----DEAD!

???

Check your alternator, or you'll end up with another dead battery pretty quick.

If there's no warning lights in the dash the alternator should be operating OK. A cheap OBD Bluetooth scanner and you can confirm your battery voltage. Or just use a multimeter to confirm that the alternator is charging. Should have more than 13 volts across the battery with the engine running

I just came back from the parts store....car started to die on the way back.

I tested the battery with a meter and it barely throws 12.16 (which means its not charging). I checked the connection and tightened it up.Then i jumped it and see if it would take a charge.

It doesn't look like its taking a charge...the battery remains at 12.40 with a jump on it...?

Does that make sense----would a battery 'cave in 20min' (even if alternator was bad????)

?

Sounds like an alternator problem. Is the belt on? If it is, sounds like your alternator is pooched. A battery is not intended to run the engine for a prolonged period of time. 20 minutes is a decent run time with no output from the alternator

Thanks man....yeah, i checked the belt,...and its good to go. The dayum alternator from Pepboys is bad. This one lasted a few years. NOT LOOOKING forward to changing it again....(Sigh)

Yeah, I hate to hear about people having problems with aftermarket parts like this. Starters, alternators, compressors, sure you can save a few going non-oem, but with the amount of labor it takes to install, it seems like a real buzz kill when the parts come up short. Sorry man...wish you the best of luck with the next one.
