Does the automatic 02 maxima have 2 thermostats???

No.

Correct me if I'm wrong,
The 00-01 VQ30DEK has 2.
The 01-04 VQ35DE in the Pathfinder/QX4 have 2 as well.

no, only in the 00-01 has them since the 02-03 eliminated the water valve assembly on the driver side bypass pipe. never understood why there were two to begin with, so much for the over engineering of Nissan of the days before Renault merger back in the early 00'
