2002 Nissan Maxima GLE navigation replacement
I'm looking to replace my Navigation system in my Maxima. As per usual for this specific car, all the buttons for the HVAC have fallen off the Navigation display. Hours of internet searches and phone calls have resulted in dead-ends when it comes to replacing it. My question is, has anyone successfully replaced it by themselves with a different option? I've seen people replace with a seperate HVAC only control and a seperate part to control the sound system. I'm really at a loss and have no idea where I could begin without spending thousands on a car I bought for $2,000. If someone has done this, I'd appreciate brands of what was used and how exactly I'd go about it. Thanks so much!
Not my photo but this is the same issue im having.

few things, Crutchfield is a great resource for replacement stereos, speakers, and GPS. they will help you with all of your questions.
there are probably stereo head units with GPS capabilities.....
secondly, it is currently 2023, can you just use your phone for GPS? in my opinion it is not worth the hassle to have GPS on your dash on a 2002 car.
if you bought this car for so cheap... i would look into simple stereo replacements through crutchfield, and use your phone for GPS. i replaced mine from them for $95 and they walked me through the installation.

You might be able to pull the climate control unit out of a non-navigation car in the salvage yard or get one from car-part.com. It would require a bit of research or experimentation to see how that would work. They had auto and manual climate control units as options. My guess is you would use an auto unit.
Crutchfield may have the answer already. They have volumes of information on stuff like this. If it were me, the first thing I would do is call them. They may even have a plug and play option specifically for our cars. Remember, the factory Bose system failed quickly in these cars so there was a demand for aftermarket early on.
I'm with Prophecy on this one as far as the nav goes. Either ditch it or go with a screen unit that will mirror your phone if you really want it in your dash. Even the best nav system from that time is crap compared to what we have on our phones for free today.
I added a double din screen unit in my work van that will mirror the nav from the phone. I never use it even though I'm on nav all the time going to new places. I use the phone on a mount and don't bother with the screen.
