Carbotech brake ?

Say friends, I called Carbotech yesterday about replacement pads on my Max and they asked what driving style, etc. would be predominant and I said hard street driving is the modus operandi (sp.) for me. Well they quoted me a price of $90 for the front set and $62 for the rears....BUT they said they were not Carbotech designed but in fact are Axxis Ultimate pads which are (in their words) awesome for street and mild race (autocross) duties. Are these the same pads that Stillen sells? If not has anyone experienced this Ultimate brand? On their web page it says these are produced by Bendix of Australia or something.....Just trying to decide on some pads before I run into any rotor/judder problems. Evidently the true Carbotech pads are designed for race applications and don't work so well at ambient or cool temps....Any thoughts/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a ton for the link; from what I can tell the Ultimate's feel better and fade less but in all other major aspects they are even with or worse than Metal Masters...The brake noise and rotor life/scoring especially concern me with problems others have had with shudder on 5th gen rotors....May have to go back down the Porterfield or EBC Greenstuff path.....

You're welcome for the link. I'm going to try the metal masters for the first time actually. If I want something more aggressive, then something else may be considered.

Do they make EBC Greenstuff for the 5th gen? Cause last time I checked, about a month ago or so ago, they didn't make any.

I have quite a bit of experience w/ carbotech brakes.

I would go w/ their "super street -f" compound. It has very little brake dust, good feel, can handle a full day of time trialing, will not eat up rotors, last a long time, will NOT squeal, and have much better stopping compared to stock or Axxis MM (which I think suck, IMHO). They're more money, however than the Axxis. I've tried 5 different brake pads for my cars, and have yet to find a better street pad that can handle the abuse of time trialing.

I talked with Carbotech the other day. Superstreet F has been discontinued through them. It's not their own compound anyway, it was the Hawk HPS which you can still find at other places.

On the Tirerack website they show the front disc pads from EBC for the 5th gen Max. If I have time I'll try to call EBC directly to find out if both fronts and rears are available.
