What is the purpose of the white box attached to the bottom of the air intake (resonator, correct?) on my 2000 I30. Before you say it, "search" only talks about taking it out and not what it's for)

Dampen the sound maybe??? Most people buy cars that are quiet, so manufacturers supply the demand. That's the only thing I can think of.

Yes, it is sort of like a silencer

There's a resonator on both the intake and the exhaust B-pipe. They're both to make things quieter. Removing the intake silencer will make it louder. Don't know what it sounds like but I imagine it's like putting in a loud intake setup. Some say it sounds good, others say it gets obnoxiously loud. At least on 3rd Gens, but they should all be similar.

Ive taken the resonator off of my 2000 Max. I have a Magnaflow muffler on the car and I wanted the exhaust noise to be a lil louder. I had the resonator taken off and its a bit louder than before. Since then, Ive added a Stillen high flow intake. Now the exhaust note is even louder. Its not too loud overall, but it is noticeably louder than stock.

Hey man, did you say your resonator was white?? Mine was black... I took out everything unneccasary in there when i put in my intake. It just makes it quieter, definately not obnoxious until past like 3500 rpm. You dont hear it much on the highway, because the wind noise drowns it out. Hope this helps..
