I have a 2002 SE Automatic and began noticing a popping or clicking noise coming from the gear shifter area as the brakes are applied when the car is in drive and not moving(or very slowly moving). You can apply and release brakes in a repetitive fashion and hear the noise each time. During normal driving, you also hear the noise as you come to a stop at a red light or stop sign.
Anyone notice this and have any ideas of what it might be. I haven't said anything to the dealer yet since I wanted to get some feedback here first.

My brakes were making a clicking noise when I stepped on them. Nissan couldn't find the problem after 4 times. I just found the problem myself and fixed it. It was a noisy brake switch for the gear selector. I lubed it up and it's quiet now.

steelymatt,
Thanks for the reply.
Sounds like you had the same problem. Could you give me a little more information about how you lubed the switch? Did you have to remove the interior trim pieces around the gear selector to lube the switch? If so, is this difficult?
