HLSD or Not??

I started this conversation in another thread…I thought it might be worthy of a new thread…who knows though, I am still a rookie.

Anyways, I got my ‘02 6-speed about 2 weeks ago (no HLSD). After reading one of GregP’s posts I found something that was very interesting. He had said, in his post, that he had the drilled metal pedals and that they were only available with the HLSD option. I checked the Nissan web site and found that this is true.

The interesting part is that I have the drilled metal pedals in my car. I tripled checked the sticker, and I do not have the HLSD option nor the drilled metal pedals listed (yet I actually have the drilled metal pedals). I also tried to find out if there was a way to translate the VIN or another way to determine what is actually in the car. I have had no luck there (Carfax was no help).

So I ask, is it possible that I have the HLSD? Is there anyway to find out for sure (don’t tell me to go in a puddle and floor it either)?

For the people that have 6-speed with no HLSD, what kind of pedals do you have?

Thanks,
Brian

check out what day your car was built. im not sure about the exact dates but if it says your car was built anytime before december than i doubt you have HLSD. as much as i dont want to believe it (as i am still waiting on my HLSD 6 speed to be delivered) i have a feeling you may have gotten lucky.

Jack the car up, both front wheels off the ground. Spin one wheel, if you have HLSD, the other wheel will spin IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
I believe this is a good test. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I got mine with HLSD 2 weeks ago. My car has drilled metal pedals but the sticker doesn't list HLSD. I bought it from my friend who works at Nissan. He said sticker came in wrong and the invice listed HLSD. Also, car was built in December.

I saw a Maj Blue this past weekend in Orlando and it did not say anything about HLSD but it had the pedals. According to the dealer the car has HLSD.

Hope this is helpful.

To be honest, I have no idea if it has it or not. I called 800-NISSAN1 and I really wish I could have gotten that 10 minutes of my life back. He told me that they ship all of the Maximas to the dealers with the standard features only, and that the dealer puts on every option . Being that I bought my car before the dealer even had the opportunity to prep it (3miles), I highly doubt that. I have not been able to find a "legend" for the VIN number either.

I almost wonder if Nissan is going to start shipping all of the 6-speeds with this option (and not tell anyone)...who knows, it would be nice though!!

I did find out that my car was mfr'd on 12/11/2001. I guess I will have to grab 2 buddies and ask them to see if both my wheels are spinning. It is raining here today, so maybe I will do it...

If anyone else has any input, that would be great too.

Thanks for all the replies guys,
Brian

Don't bother with the spinning tires test because it wont tell you much. Early production 6 spds spin both tires in virtually all circumstances, actually I've yet to see a situation where only one tire was spinning. I suspect all late production run 6 spds will have HLSD and dealers probably shouldn't be charging for it.

Greetings,

since i just signed for my yesterday, I can be of help here.
The product code is U4VG52 -- the "VG" begin the important difference between the hlsd and the pre-hlsd model. It was some other code before, "VH" or something i think?

Where would I find the product code? I looked on my sticker and did not see the above information anywhere.

Thanks,
Brian
