Does sub-zero temps affect CD player?
Does sub-zero temps affect CD player?
I normally like to warm up my Max. before turning on either the CD or cassette player. Would it have a negative impact on the mechanical parts if either were turned on as soon as you get in the car at sub-zero temperatures (celcius)? If so, what time would be advisable to wait?
More sound system questions:
Are scratched CD's bad for your sytem (specially when they skip or get stuck on the same tune)? Is it detrimental to fast forward or skip songs with the CD player all the time? How about the tape deck?
Input on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

') when friends can't wait to use it at -10 degrees celcius.Input, more input!!
I think you guys are nuts!
Cd/tape's are really long lasting items. The sub freezing weather does nothing to it. I live in buffalo, its not 0 C, but 0 F. Thats cold. I wouldn't floor my car in the ice cold, but hell....throw a cd in that bad boy right away. And as far as cd's skiping cuz they are scratched, don't worry about it. You're not hurting the player, it just can't read it that well.

Dont worry about damaging your cd player.
I leave my windows open overnight to get the cigeratte smell out, and it can get really cold in Virginia too. But I dont worry about it. So what if the cd player breaks, just go get new one, the one that even plays mp3. Mine is not bose, so I dont care about my cd deck.
Try a CD optic cleaner (looks like a CD with 2 tiny brushes on it, $10-$20). Mine acted up, and one run of the magic CD cleaner and good as new, now I do it every 6 months just to make sure.
....of course....
Subzero will most likely cause the CD play to mess up. There is probably some type of lube on the bearings of the CD players motor or what not....no matter how thin that stuff is, make it cold enough and it'll slow things down.
