3 runs with an S4....
3 runs with an S4....
Finally got to race one from a dead stop!
All 3 races were the same results...
He would get me by 1/2 on the launch...
2nd gear I would pull up to his front fender...
3rd gear we would be even...
This is in a 2 block race... about a 1/4 mile... a little less because we have to slow down b 4 the next light.
I think he did not launch the car to it's full potential, but I'm not complaining... another good run for the Maxs!

Yea once he learns how to lauch it, that's a different story.
Tach that baby up to at least 5k rpms and drop the clutch. AWD does wonders.

My neighbor has an S4 tip. He ran a 14.8 with a trans chip and I'm pretty sure he had an engine chip (1 bar boost increase) in too. I do know the trans chip was in. Launched at full boost. Don't know the temps or anything. I just remember him being a bit disappointed.

not really... the S4 is fast... u juicing or not... u gotta have like a 150 shot to keep up with a S4...
he did say he has a tiptronic so it is slower than the manual and he can not to a great launch since he can just torque brake and not drop the clutch at lets say 5k rpm...

the tiptronic isn't THAT slow...he should get better then a 14.8, you can't tell me a stock 2k2 auto maxima beats him
He needs to read up on AW for some tips

On how to launch and shift. Even if it is a tip, he should be running low, low 14's at worst.
I personally know of a few A6 2.7t tip owners that run 14.1-13.9 with a the engine and tip chip.
Stickshift A6 2.7's can run as fast as 14.4 (my own car)with an average of 14.6-14.7 in complete stock form.

so you are telling me with just a tiptronic chip and an engine chip a automatic A6 is faster than a 6speed A6? i dunno for some reason that doesnt sound too true to me...
I'm saying exactly that-->

There are a few tip A6's (2.7t's were talking here) that run 14.0 with the tip and ecu chips. The average would be approx. 14.1-14.2.
A chipped 6 speed A6 has run 13.6-13.7, with a driver who admittedly isn't an very experienced 1/4 mile racer. This is with a chip only.
Remember, the A6/S4 2.7t engine is underrated at 250hp/258lb ft. Real world figures would be in the 270-275 range. Using the standard 1/4 mile HP calculators, my car was making about 270 hp to run a 14.4 A 96 with a race weight of 4000 lbs.
Adding a chip brings the power up to 310hp/340 lb.ft. Now there is a new generation of chips that bring the power even higher.

4000 lbs!!!!!?!?!?!
wow, The max only weighs 3200 or so, but alas no AWD.
Anyway that's a great time, but I think something we have all been forgetting to take into account is track conditions on that day. Altitude, humidity, traction, temperature could all work together to put a mid 14 sec car in the low 15's.
Just my two cents!

Ahhh, this brings back sweet memories. I once had an S4 beside me at a light, and I didn't plan on racing him, but when we took off, it was clear that he wanted to play. About the time we took off, some blue-hair pulled out in his lane about 30 yards ahead or so. He thought he was going to take me and cut in front of me, but I wouldn't let him have it. I remember hearing the engine racing beside me, but he never pulled ahead. Finally, he submitted and had to pull in behind me. I had to laugh, because I knew he clearly had more under the hood than I did, but I made him think twice about a Max..

My neighbor was expecting low 14's. He's been working on his T-Type that runs low 12's. He does know how to drive, but I argree that he needs more time in the seat of the S4. And weather is always more of a factor on boosted cars so..? We'll get it back out later this year. I want to get my 2K2 first so I can race him.

S4 launch
S4's (2001/2002) won't launch well if you forget to turn off the ESP (elec stability prog). Ask me how I know....
But with that turned off, it will really bite the pavment hard. Tiptronics won't be near as fast as 6spd's.

I'm thinking about trading the Max in for a G35... auto of course
