Bad Engine Problem, Please Help ME!!!
Bad Engine Problem, Please Help ME!!!
Posted a few times a while back about this problem on here, and it just comes back worse. When accelerating, something happens where it just stops at 2.5k rpms..and even floored, won't go past 2.5-2.7k..and sorta just alternated quickly back and forth between these two. Two times I've brought it into Nissan for this, and two times they've replaced the EGR valve which has something to do with recycling uncombusted fuel.
Lately now, I find my engine just being weird, and jumping around some, and not only that, but I change my oil regularly with Mobil 1 full synthetic..and over xmas break, I noticed the smell of gas pretty evident in the oil I was taking out. It wasn't overpowering, but there was defintiely some there. Just a week ago, I changed my oil again, and sent a portion of it to BlackStone labs for testing to see what they find. Now 2nite, this whole thing with the 2.5k rpm thing happens twice, and sorta violently. What's wrong with my car? Please help me. Someone once said the TPS maybe, but that would have less to do with the engine. Does anyone else have this fuel smell in the oil? Are the seals on my pistons shot? Is a fuel injector malfunctioning and dripping fuel into the oil?
Anyways, if ANYONE can give me any ideas, I'm going into Nissan tomorrow at 7 am, and saying that instead of just replacing what that check engine light tells them to replace, they need to look more into the problem i describe, b/c with two tries..it's still broken, and I only have another 4k miles till i hit 36k, although isn't the drivetrain covered longer? If anyone could give me any info please, I want to give these Nissan people as many hints as to what could be wrong since they obviously can't fix this or are too lazy who knows. Hopefully I'll get those results from blackstone back soon. Thanks!!! I love my Maxima, but a year of this crap is starting to **** me off!!!

Do what they said about the letter etc. Hopefully it'll work out to your advantage.
Well, I have an idea.
I had a pretty bad hesitation problem (3500-4500RPM) that took many trips to the dealer for them to fix. They finally had me drive it while their mechanic watched a real-time on-board diagnostic computer while I got the car to hesitate on the freeway.
What they found was that the ECU was retarding timing, always around this RPM range and only when it was hot out. It retarded timing because it "thought" the throttle pos. sensor was closed even though TPS recorded 3/4 throttle.
The ECU was bad and Nissan expected that answer. They are aware that there are faulty ECUs out there, but insisted on 2-3 ECU reprograms and a new TPS before they’d admit it. It sounds very much like you could have one of these faulty ECUs. See if they can do the ride-along diagnostic. As soon as they saw what it was doing to my timing, and that the TPS was reporting full-closed while I was at 3/4 throttle, they ripped that sucker out. My car has run perfectly ever since.
Just a thought because some of the symptoms are similar. Good luck!

What you describe is pretty interesting. Supposedly today they did the diagnostic test while driving, but didn't experience the problem. They are keeping the car and going to give it another shot tomorrow morning. Only thing I can say, is that the next time it happens, I'll be driving over there without turning off the car...obviously at a slow rate since I'll be driving under 2.5k rpm...and if i have to..keep the darn car running all night long till someone shows in the morning to see what I'm talking about!! Thanks for everyone's input..this has just been so frustrating. You all are the best!

So just wondering if your car threw any codes or not???? Sorry for the length. PS: Should I just suggest to the dealer that they do a ride-along diagnostic??
Thanks for the insight.
