2nd dealer agreed to replace the TCM
Hi Everyone,
I am new here but have been lurking for sometime. Thanks
to your post about the TSB for the TCM, I have been able to
get a dealer to replace it.
It took two dealers to do, but I am getting a new one next wednesday. The first dealer supposedly "checked" the part number when I was in for an oil change. They came back and told me that I had the "new" y101 part in the car. Not being convinced since there was an obviously delay in the shift from 1st to 2nd at half throttle, I decided to go to the previous dealer that I bought my 97 max from. They were great ! Never even had to go for a test drive.
I had the service manager print the ticket from the Consult Two device(showing the bad TCM number) so that I can go back to the dealer the denied my request and reem them a new *** ! How pathetic...."we checked your TCM and you have the new one sir ".
Anyways, thanks again... I love this board !

yeah...
I always think I have something to really 'get' them. They just shrug it off and go back to screwing other customers.
that TCM is so dealer specific. its amazing how hard it is to get that thing replaced. Maybe Nissan has tons of extra trannies laying around for the cars that get refused the new TCM.

Is there a recall on Maxima transmisions or something? And what is the TCM? I have also noticed that sometimes my Maxima doesn't want to shift from 1st to 2nd (auto).
Please let me know!

Good Job!!
I went into the dealer last week armed with the TSB on TCM. The assistant manger from the service department jumped into the driver seat and took my car for a spin. He drove around for like 15 minutes or so, but never really gunned the car. Is stated on the TSB that only occurs under 1/2 or greater trottle position. Sure enough.. "Everything seems normal to me" claimed by the ***( abbriviation for assistant manger from now on) I kept my cool and with a firm tone of voice "you have to gun the car" I said. "Well, this is not a sports car, not meant to be driven like that"said the ***.. Anyway make the long story short, i also had them check out my obviously warped rotor... Of course they found "NOTHING WRONG WITH IT" again...When i picked up my car that evening. I started to chat with the svc manager, and he told me he was into speed and blah blah blah.. Anyway the TCM came up and after he pulled the TSB from his own computer.. Guess wut? he said he would go ahead and order one for me.. AIGHT!!!! Finally got wut i wanted...
Wuts the meaning behind all this??? If you are persistant and polite, you will get a new TCM. I know i did!!!

Re: Re: yeah...
It's not a recall ! The 2000 Max has a problem (some call it a delay some call it a slip) shifting from 1st to 2nd when accelerating hard(half throttle or more). Many people do not notice the problem because they do not drive aggresively.
Actually, since I was made aware of this I have paid close attention to my car and it slips even when not accelerating at half throttle. It seems to be worse when the car is cold.

hey i have a 2000 maxima se auto... how do i know what this "slip" or "delay" feels like? how can it be described? i do gun the car several times but im not sure if it skips or not... i know that a jetta
took me from the start by more than half a car for three consecutive starts... my car was made in august i think where the bad parts still being made then? where can i check which part# tcm i have is it accessible by just looking somewhere? where do i look? please try to help me as much as u can... thanks!

if your car was made on or before
4/00, then you might need the new TCM.
btw, the new TCM doesnt eliminate the slip, only the delay which caused excessive wear. The car still shifts like a big sloshy auto 4dr sedan. 1-2 shift wont ever snap your neck back, unless you do VB mod and/or level10 tranny.

TimW is correct . . .
Replacing the TCM simply reduces the amount of time required for the transmission to shift from 1st to 2nd. It does not make the shift instantaneous, however.
By the way, according to my research, the original TCM code on ALL 2K Maxima A/T's ends in "3Y101", not in "3Y100".
Follow TimW's advice and find out when your car was manufactured. If it was made before 4/00, I'd suggest you either replace your TCM or purchase an extended warranty.

It may not make it shift instantly but it does get rid of the big rolling shift into second...I can defintly tell the difference between the old one and the new one....a bit firmer...more like my folks 95 Max but not quite as hard...
I was with the tech when he hooked up his Consultant II to my car...the reading on the screen came back 3Y100 for the old TCM. The work order stated that they put part #3Y101 in per TSB....
My car is a 04/00 build and I had the old TCM in it. Probably the only successfull dealing I've had with Nissan so far is getting them to replace it....

01 maxima TCM ....
IM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE U DO TO YOUR CAR !!
OK I know this is old, but its help me alot so i want to help anyone who is having the same problem...
my 01 maxima was slipping and change gears very un-normal
I went to the Nissan dealership and they told me that my transmission control module "TCM" was bad.
They charge me $120 to look at the car.
They also told me it was going to be $1200 to replace this part !!
no one so i called around and I found the part for only $120 Dollars at the local used auto parts store.
the part number is 31036 4y901 It has a big C1 up top. but this is only for 01 Maxima !!
This are the pics your would not have some many cables i have a gps with amps this is why i have some many cables....

this part is very easy to remove if you have some what knowlodge about cars. its located right under the Car Stereo
all you need is a flat screw driver and a phillips... BEFORE YOU TAKE OUT THIS PART MAKE SURE U DISCONNECT THE BATTERY
use the flat screw driver to pop the middle console.. then just work ur way up dont break anything everything pops off and its about 10 screws total...
the tcm is under a black little box. u take of the 2 screws and both boxes should come out...
disconnect the old box put the new one in and put everything back together.
once your done. plug the batt back and that should it....
I drove the car around my house and it deff felt like it was shifting a lot smoother. i havent taken it for a long drive to see if its really the cause of the issue which i hope it was......... I well post once i take the drive.....
I hope this info helps some one in need...
