Already? No idea.

NHTSA and AllData doesn't seem to have it on file.

Speaking of recalls...

Can anyone suggest a reputable dealer for service on my Maxima? I live in Maryland... montgomery county. It could even be a private party which specializes in Nissans. I need some help, the dealer where I bought the car sucks bad.

Any help would be great...

Damn this doesn't sound good....isn't A33 the 5th gen code name, not just the 2K2?

Has anyone called Nissan? My money is on the Sunroof Wind Deflector. My dealer told me they were recalled.

I called up Nissan USA (1-800-Nissan-1)and was told about the recall (if you want to put it in the recall category). So a few mins ago I call up my nissan service center and was told a rubber stop have to be place under the acceleration pedal.
What may happen is the pedal could get stuck in the down position that could cause false acceleration; so this rubber piece needs to be installed to prevent that.

The Nissan rep also told me that this is pretty new (release on 1/23/02) but if you call your nissan service center they should already have it in their computer.

I don't want to panic anyone. I just what to keep you inform. I also believe this is isolated to the 2K2.

I just called them myself, it's not a recall. It's not even a TSB. I guess all is good.

Ther is an official recall. Here is the recall according to NHTSA:

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 02V043000
Component: FUEL:THROTTLE LINKAGES AND CONTROL
Manufacturer: NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.

Year: 2002 Make: NISSAN Model: MAXIMA Recall Date: 02/14/2002

Type of Report: Vehicle
Potential Number of Units Affected: 39000
Manufactured: 06/2001 - 10/2001
Defect Summary:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM. THE STOPPER FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL PREVENT EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF THE ACCELERATOR POSITION SENSOR. IF THE DRIVER APPLIES OVERLY EXCESSIVE FORCE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE AT THE SAME TIME PUSHING IT TO THE RIGHT, THE PEDAL CAN "OVER TRAVEL" DUE TO THE DESIGN OF THE PEDAL STOPPER.
Consequence Summary:
THIS WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP TO COME ON AND THE ENGINE SPEED TO BE SEVERELY LIMITED. IF THIS OCCURS UNEXPECTEDLY, IT COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.
Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW ACCELERATOR PEDAL STOPPER. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN MARCH 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 800-662-6200.

Doesent effect me, only those built 6/01-10/01. I was one of those people waiting for mine to come in... Still waiting. Due date March 22nd. I hope I am no included in this...

My friend bought his from a dealer in Silver Spring (Herb Gordon), he gets his service there and found a specific mechanic that just plain kicks. If you want I can try to get his name for you, maybe you can request him.

I thought it was a new problem, this has actually been discussed before already.

Anyhow, i guess i should wait for my invitation back to the dealership. I'm pretty sure mine was manufactured on those dates (took delivery in August).

Thanks for the info... I live in Germantown, MD. Tisher in laurel isn't too bad of a drive, neither is Herb Gordon. I bought the car from DarCars Nissan in Rockville, and their service dept sucks, and it sucks real hard. I took the car back after 1 day of ownership to have the tires balanced. The car sat there all day and wasn't touched at all. I am due for an oil change and to get the hood flutter issue addressed, so I am searching for a quality dealer or specialist. If there is a phone number and name any one can supply, just e-mail the info to: Paclark01@Att.net. Thanks for your help.

you should def. check out Rosenthal Nissan in Gaithersburg; it's just up the road from you. I can't rave about their sales but their service is pretty competent. Not inexpensive though, but they have never given me a problem and that's what counts...

I'd second Rosenthal, although I go to the one in Tyson's. They have their act together as far as the service process. Curtis Kurauth on Red Team is the man. They're not the cheapest, but they have thus far been thorough and have done extra little things at no charge.

Do you have more info on that 6-speed gearbox recall?
Mine seems to be fine at least now.

The only thing that is bothering me is A-pillar rattle on passenger side. I had exact same thing on my 2000 Maxima and now I have it on 2002 Maxima. This sucks. I am gona try to find the TSB on that A-pillar rattle.

recall info finally up on nissandriven.com

It finally went up (possibly today). See http://www.nissandriven.com/owning/R...Maxima,00.html

Looks like my VIN is one of the affected ones (not surprisingly).

Yep I got the notice last week.

If you are not careful, you may floor it at an angle and cause the throttle to overtravel, this took light force to accomplish by hand

There is a recall. I got my notice from Nissan yesterday. It says to take the car into the dealership and get the stopper fixed. On the notice it says "recall" and not TSB. So I would consider it official.
