speeding tickets

Just wondered what the speeding ticket status is with the rest of org community. I purchased my 2000 SE almost exactly 2 years and the first week I had the car I took it out at 2AM in the morning and BAM! hit with blue and red Christmas lights in the rear view mirror. Then about a week later I was on the highway and was stuck between two semis' so being the clostraphobic that I am, I gunned it between them and dejah vu! Hit with another ticket! After that I was having second thoughts about the purchase of my car, but hey, I figured something like this was going to happen. I mean, I went from an '88 Toyota Celica with 88HP to '00 Maxima with 222HP. Needless to say I've behaved a lot better since then watching my speed, however I still give it hell on onramps. I was pulled over a couple of months ago but was hit with only a warning. I think the officer was so surprised that I actually had my seatbelt on that she let me go. Oh well, just one more year to go till the tickets clear!

it works both ways...

the max is very comfortable... For me, I find it easier to slow down than in a small car. It's nothing to just relax and take your time in residential areas (where they tend to speed trap). As far as the highway, yeah on long trips I set the cruise on ballistic. But even then, when I *have* to slow down, it's no big deal.

It's more of a mindset I guess, I'm not really in a hurry to get out of the max. except on a cold morning when it's rattling like mad.

No tickets in the Max yet.

Had one BS one (78 in a 65 when a bunch of idiots just zoomed past me at 80-90+!!! ) in the Accord about a year ago and two others before that. They're all off of my record now though

Just got one this past weekend

I was doing 160km in a 100 area. Just had to see how the Mich Pilot Sports A/S behave at high speeds. The cop gave me a break and issued the ticket for 134km.

BTW. the Pilot Sports are kick A$$

How to Avoid Tickets

You may think I'm an ancient stick-in-the- mud but I used to get my fair share of tickets, especially in my bright yellow Porsche 914 years ago. But after talking to some friendly California Highway Patrol officers, I've learned how to avoid tickets:

1. Stay out of the fast lane on expressways, unless actually passing. That's where the cops will look for speeders first.
2. Avoid weaving in and out of traffic. The cops can spot you far off.
3. Maintain speeds that are in the general flow of traffic. Blend in.
4. Check your rear constantly for police entering traffic from your right.
5. Don't violate the small stuff, like not signaling turns, or following too close.
6. Don't ever speed at night. You just can't see who's behind you.

It doesn't always work, but I haven't had a ticket since 1986 (for speeding on a LA freeway).

...I got nailed for 92 in a 65 by Illinois' Finest. Cop was going the other way and pulled a u turn on me. However, the ticket is off my record.

I run a detector in all cars but the truck and have not had a ticket since (knock on wood). Just need to watch the mirrors closely and speed responsibly.

I'm 34 and have been driving relatively fast cars for many years, and never once have I ever been pulled over!

I am either extremely lucky or else I must be driving like an old fart-bag.

For those who said the Passport 8500 saved them, the * is an intersection, and the cop was clocking cars on the intersection. I pulled up basically behind him on a service road, watching him use the gun, but my 8500 didn't go off. I don't understand it, I was close to his car, but nothing. It was also on auto mode. I was mad because this thing cost me $300. Comments would help. Thanks

I got a BS 50 in a 35 down a hill over the weekend. I asked the cop to show me his radar gun and he said no and then hesitated and said I had no right to see it. I then asked him to prove that his gun was calibrated correctly and he said he would show that at the trial. I think he pulled that speed out of his *** so I was ****ed. I think he saw a young guy in a nice modded car and thought he could pull me over to get money for some hick town library.

I made a right on red a couple of months ago so one more ticket and my license will be suspended, according to NY DMV. I can't afford to be without my car so I went out and got the Passport 8500 for peace of mind. I am pleading not guilty on both tickets so we'll see what happens.

Radar detectors

Burton069,
That sucks about the Paspor 8500. Did you have any good experiences with it? My friend and I bought, tested, and returned a couple of the cheap radar detectors--ALL BULLSH*T! However, car and driver (I think it was car and driver anyway) rated the Valentine radar detector as being far better than all others. Any valentine owner here? Unfortunatly, in another thread I was told the valentine sucks too.

As for my tickets, I've had a few stupid ones (radar of course) on the streets but none on the freeway. Actually, I was going to post about my experiences on the freeway here, but the post got lost (F*cking busy server--whats up with that?). Anyway I started a new threat title "Freeway Rules" if anyones interested.

By the way, does anyone here use scaners???

Re: Radar detectors

fu<k pic got messed up, basically i was within 20 feet of the cop, gun pointed away from me, but nuttin picked up. It did save me though, so thats good. But instant on, I think all Radars don't pick it up. Mine did, but 7 seconds after the cop looked at the readout

Hmmmm...so it has worked before? The way I see it, if it saves you twice and never works again, then it's worth every penny. One thing I do know about radar detectors is that you have to slam your brakes hard when it goes off (especially at high speeds). Even if you were going too fast, its hard to get a proper reading when the speed shifts like that.

No valentine owners? I hope valentine isn't bunk, because i've heard suck great things.

My cheap @$$ Cobra detector saved my @$$ again last night doing about 85 in a 55 at night. My detector gave me a beep beep, so I slow and look for the cop. Beep beep the signal is stronger now I thing where the fu<k is he?? I good mile goes by and strong @$$ beep beep full strength, BAM he is in the middle of the freeway which is of lowered elevation with his lights off, would never see him unless you already drove by him.

Countless times like that my cheap detector saved my tail!!!!! I have got readings 2-2.5 miles before I pass the cop, I love my Cobra.
