"Nissan Technician Shop Manuals"
Hey guys here is a number for nissan shop manuals. From my understanding 5th gen owners can get the cd-rom set. Anyway here is the toll free number: 1-800-247-5321, specify year/model.

No they are not free, but i think that they are a worthy investment. And i believe only the 5th gen guys can get cd-roms. Although I suspect that they just don't want to release the 4th gen CD-ROMS !

Not available there any more...
I called the # above and was told manuals pertaining to 2000 or newer vehicles aren't offered there anymore. They referred me to Tweddle Litho (800-639-8841) which handles printing/CD duplication of the manuals now. The paper manual (3 volumes) is $265-275 and the CD version (1 disk) is $210!!!! That's WAY too high for a shop manual that most will use to locate drain holes for vital fluids. You have to supply your VIN# when you order so they know which CD to give you? There are apparently different versions depending on VIN#. How different could it be though? I could see a "group buy" happening. I have a CD-RW drive...

These manuals are usually for the dealership and not for the home mechanic, hence the high prices.

Actually, I think a group sale is good. You may be able to pull off copying the cd as long as no one is making a profit on the copying and that it is for personal, not buisness use.
That is what ford told me when I asked them about copying my friend's service cd for my taurus.

copying the cd is illegal either way, but maybe some could ask nissan if we can get a deal. I'd pay a 100, but not 210.

Service Manuals
I went to Ebay and purchased a "new" Nissan CD with the factory service manual on it. Well it turns out that the seller had loaded the manual ONCE to be sure it worked and then sold it. I'm now getting a refund because it seems these manuals load once and NEVER AGAIN.
Other than violating copyrights, which none of us want to do,, you can't copy these disks at all as backups!!!! The protection on these disks is so EXTREME that if your system goes down, you've lost your manual - you cannot do a New install!!!
From what I can gather from the Seller, he can delete the files and reinstall them with out a problem. Yet if he reinstalls the operating system on his computer (and lets face it -----systems crash) the disks are useless.
If you can afford it - only buy a PRINTED copy of the service manuals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought the ESM direct from Nissan, and was able to copy it several times, and install/re-install it several times. My ESM was for the 2002 Maxima, so if yours was as well then you are doing something wrong.
There is NO WAY for a CD maker to make a program install only once and never again because you can't ever write to the CD - it has no knowledge that it was installed. If, however, they put a registry entry in that prevents a re-install (I've never seen this) then you can use a program like Norton WinDoctor to find it and delete it so you can reinstall the CD.

I think you need to read my post more carefully. Obviously you can't write to a CD. My CD Electronic Service Manual came with a floppy which activated the CD. According to the Seller, he could delete the CD and Viewer any number of times with no bad results. Yet once he reinstalled the operating system the CD/floppy it didn't work. When he sent it to me it would not work at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pass the Cd on to anyone you know and see if it works!!!! I don't think it will. Let us know.

What year is your car? Mine is a 2002. I have passed the CD on to a number of people, installed it at home, at work, on my laptop, made copies. No problems at all. My CD did *not* come with a floppy also - just a CD.
