Re: The point is...

hate to burst your bubble, but I talked to stillen a few days ago, and they are scratching the idea for a SC for 2k2s. There is no room left in the engine compartment and on that side to fit one anymore.

sure you can, but it doesn't alter the fact that the baseline price is higher, therefore for every $ more someone spends on a CL-S, a Max owner could spend that amount on mods. If we look at adding suspension mod's to a CL-S, that just ratchets up the $$$'s again and by then the Max could have a nice suspension and most likely a S/C to boot.

Nevermind what has to be lower insurance costs (4 doors vs. coupe).

Larrio,Acura2001CL-S,shenard: you still dont get it .........
about handling, with the extra cost for the acura's, you can make the max handle better than the acura.....PERIOD..... end of sentence....
and back to the speed, it is not necessarily right the no one knows whether the 6sp max is faster than the 6sp cl or tl.... just compare.... the 98-99 tl had a 4 sp auto same as the max, and it even has tiptronic, but if you raced the two, its not even a race....
then to the 5 sp auto tl and cl, it still couldnt beat a 4 sp auto max, that clearly proves that the car is slower....... then to the tls or cls, some 5 speed max's have beat them or hung close, a car with 40 more hp should be ashamed to even let the max hand close........ just compare the two cars and you will see....

Re: Re: Re: The point is...

Your AE costed 28-30k, my Acura CL-S costed 27,8k. I don't see the Acura being any more expensive.

Dollar for dollar, the equation goes to the Max... That is it, plain and simple math.

If you want an Acura, fine...get one...even enjoy it...but remember, what those same dollars could have gotten you elsewhere.

I hate to tell you this or anyone, but its liek going from a Sentra to the Maxima. Maxima to the CL-S. Guys, open your eyes, the Maxima is a minima, its not gods gift.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it sounds like you had your heart set on a Maxima. Since your dealer was a boob you haul off and on a knee-jerk reaction buy a CL-S. Sounds kinds stupid to me. I had my heart set on a Maxima 6-spd w/ HLSD since last September. I waited and waited and I finally got mine last week. I was set on the Max. I wasn't going to pick anything else.

If you think that by running off and buying a CL-S instead of a Maxima SE you've "hurt" Nissan you think you're a lot more important than you really are.

It's a shame that your dealer and Nissan couldn't get your order taken care of, but HLSD Max's are shipping now and your dealer should have been able to get you one without the ordering process. Oh well... your loss...

You're like Russ, trying to kid yourself, if you really think the car is just "so much better." It's not so much better. It may not be much worse either. But, you make it sound like the Maxima is a Yugo and the CL-S is a Ferrari. We all know that just isn't the case. You're looking for some validation as to why you abandoned your long time desire for what you happened to see last night. The "It is a night and day difference between the too vehicles" is your way out. You're looking for a justification of your actions.

You are absolutely hilarious. In this very post, I showed you statements you made about how the CL-S handles like a boat and how it will not out-handle a Max. Now, here you post the exact opposite. In addition you are making statements about the price difference in the Max and CL-S which you used to use as fodder for your arguements with the CL-S guys before you had one.

You must admit one of the following things to be true, because by the absolute definition of logic...one must be true:
  1. You used to know everything when you owned a Maxima and now you are a flaming moron.
  2. You used to be flaming moron and now you know everything since you own a CL-S.
  3. You have never known anything at all, you have always been a flaming moron, and there is a photograph of you next to the words contradiction, hypocrisy, and irony in the dictionary.

Which one is it?

So supposedly the maxima has the bigger engine but less hp. More torque, but lower redline (TYpe-s redline at 6900 rpm). I dunno, it looks close. Of course there is also a price difference of about 4-5 grand, between the two. A lot of things come standard on the CL while on remaing as options on the max.
You missed a few important details. The max makes about 270-285 Torque(proven by dynoes). Another key factor is the power band, the CL-S has a peakier engine and does not have the nice high flat power band like the max does. Another important thing is the max weighs something like 170 lb's or so less the the CL-S.

On a track a max will out handle a CL-S stock for stock. The maxima handles extremly well in the slolem and skid pad. Day to day smoothness probably goes to the Acura becuase of it's IRS.

Dude, a Maxima with suspension mods handle well but it won't be stable at high speeds taking turns. Unlike a GS400 or CL-S. We had this experience a few weeks back . 5th gen with mods, vs us taking a hard turn ont he highway, the max couldn't take, it was too unstable, we just went right down into it without a problem. I don't give a rats ***. You are a newbie and don't know enough or haven't been in the maxima long enough to know the difference between a good suspension and a bad. Drive a honda and see what a good suspension feels like.

Geez it feels like I am argueing with a bunch of kids.

Emax show me damn proof a Maxima out handles a CL-S or tl-s?! That is the most uneducated answer I have seen. There is no ****ing way a Maxima will ever out handle a CL-S without 3k put into suspension work. I don't give a rats *** what you think. You go drive one and compare taking hard turns and see for yourself.

I am sick of this childish **** from people on this forum, No wonder why some people no longer come here including a few moderators I talk to.

you just think you know a lot about cars right???? i know honda has good suspension, and it is better than nissan's stock suspension, but ther is no way it will outhandle a suspension modded max........ you probably think that a gs 430 handles well, but then let me tell you something, you dont know $hit, have you driven a porsche??? mercedes amg cars????? never think that you know everything.... i will race you with my clk and start in 2nd gear and still smoke you, and i ll take the corners in reverse gear...

He is SO funny I can't stand it. Little intelligence, little if any logic, no ability to debate, no ability to see the weaknesses in his own statements, no ability (it would seem) to see the irony of his every word. I hope he's only 17 or 18, that would at least put him in a position to grow up one day.

$20 says he's driven all of those cars and probably has, at least one family member who owns one of each.

Take a look at any road review, the max has a higher slolem speed and pulls more G's. I have been in and driven a CL and it did not feel superior in any way. Why are you getting all worked up

Russ buys a CL-S and now its the best handling car on the road. A stock CL-S isnt a great handling car. The suspension is too soft and the car needs a better set of tires.

I never said it was the BEST HANDLING CAR. There you go again, max guys pulling words out of there ***.

Suspension is not exactly soft, but its precise. It handles better than the Maxima period. 4th and 5th gen.

Car has better tires than the Maxima stock, Michelin Pilots, MXV4 I beleive is the model. Rain traction is great compared to the slippery Bridgestones.

What changed, then, from when you posted the statement about how the suspension of the Acura was soft and that it handled like a boat? I quoted them earlier. You said these things, not any of us. What has changed since then to make the CL-S such a great handling car? I suppose the only thing that has changed is that you now own one.

You do realize that you said that the Acura was a boat and that it had a "way way soft" suspension and could not outhandle a Maxima? You do realize those were YOUR words? Have you blocked that out or something? I mean, maybe this is some sort of clinical problem and not just a comedy show for me.

Prove that it handles better. Every review i read said the cars suspension was soft. I drove a 01 CL-S and it isnt any better than a maxima in terms of handling. I did like the seats though, best part of the car imo.

More info here:

http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdr...cura_3-2cl.htm

Perhaps the most significant improvement over the current model is the 3.2CL's vehicle dynamics. They are superb for a nose-heavy front-wheel-drive car. For starters, the 3.2CL feels more solid and well-built. At higher cornering speeds, it offers stable, flat cornering with minimal lean and tenacious grip from its P215/50R-17 inch tires. There is virtually no forward pitch when braking and minimal dive when accelerating, and high-speed stability is uncanningly reassuring. Yet despite it's low-profile 17 inch tires with their narrow sidewalls, the CL has a comfortable ride. Traction control is standard on base models, while VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist) on Type S models helps prevent the car going into a skid (understeer or oversteer) when cornering on wet or icy roads.

And of course for comparison:

http://www.canadiandriver.com/testdrives/00maxima.htm

They weren't to happy about the handling it seemed.

You are a dumb ****. Go ask Shing the man of .org to answer your handling questions. He can answer them for you if you don't believe a thing I say about how Hondas out handle a freakin Nissan (or should I say Maxima). You are pushing me to my limit *******. RUSS can you read. Read the article again and come back here and tell me that they werent too happy.

Quote from article:

Yea no details, so they really weren't all that impressed just its a rock solid car in the turns till they hit a bump....

"Though larger and a little heavier, the new Maxima doesn't feel ungainly. In fact, it exhibits excellent poise in sudden switchbacks and a high level of grip when cornering quickly. There is some body lean, but once the Maxima takes a stance, it stays there. The lack of an independent rear suspension is only apparent on bumpy roads at high speed where the Maxima feels a little more skittish. But for the most part, this is an excellent handling, and comfortable sedan. "

I really don't care how close to your limit you are, Russ. I could care less. I also don't care which car handles better...haven't even made one comment about that. Couldn't care one way or the other. You seem to care a great deal, however, in addition to being horribly hypocritical...so I'm pointing out every flaw in your statements and points for my own amusement because I do not believe you are intelligent enough to form a logical arguement.

Dont see anything in your articles to prove the CL-S is any better of a handling car. IMO its sad that we are even comparing a CL-S to a Maxima. Acuras target were the Germans when they created the CL-S. The CL-S cannot compare to anything BMW, Audi, or MB makes.

oh? Every article out has compared it to Lexus, bmw, infiniti. The Maxima is not even in the same league....the I35 is of course.

Compared because they are competition for the CL-S. I have yet to see an article that even says the CL-S comes close in terms of performance to a 330i or IS300. I am not talking about acceleration btw.

8 cars tested, and the TL-S won against all of them.

BMW 330, IS300, Lincoln LS, I35T, etc....

And the TL has slightly softer suspension than the CL anyways. But 4 door vs 4 door and virtually the same car.

That is my proof enough and I am ending this debate.

Goodnight...

I have dinner plans tonight, so I'm afraid I have another distraction. Thank you all for your time. I appreciate you reading, I assume this thread will be locked by the time I return.

Russ, I wanted to thank you in particular for putting yourself on display for my amusement today. It was a great way to end the day. You're my favorite CL-S owner and I may just right a dissertation on you one day for kicks and a PhD.
