Need tire help asap.

Should I go with Nitto 450 Extreme or Michelin Pilot sport?

The nittos have a v rating and the michelin has a w rating.

Which is the better tire for the buck?

Nittos are $117
and the Michelin are $215

I was shopping around myself yesterday and from everyone I spoke to, they said that the Nittos werent that good in the rain. I personally was going to get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S but the best price I found was $202 a tire. This would have came out to about $860 mounted! I told myself why not spend another 400-500 and get rims as well?

Bought the Tantrums with Falken tires for $1,229. The Falken tires are all season and they were supposedly tested against 8 of the best all season tires on the market. The Falkens came in 3rd right behind the Michelin Pilot Sports, considering the price difference thats pretty good.

Between your 2 choices I would definately go with the Michelins.

I'd say it depends a great deal on where you live. I live in Southern California. We don't get a lot of wet weather around here. So for my money, it's the Nittos. If you live in a wet climate, go for the Michelins.

YJ,

How’s it going? I got the Nittos in December and have been very pleased with them. They’ve impressed me in ALL areas, including wet traction. They’ve been solid as a rock in the rain, as well as sleet and the little Dallas snow we’ve experienced.

I HAVE heard that they lose their wet traction once they wear down a ways, but that was from Sprint, and let’s face it- he hates everything except NOS.

I haven’t driven the Pilot Sports, but for an extra $100 per tire they’d better perform fellatio on me at stop lights…

Hey, I’m thinking about Ennis this Fri. night. What do you think?

GD Nissan

provides us an almost 30K car and can't step up and put 17 X 7.5 inch rims on it. I cannot decide on tires, if you stick to stock specs you have about 5 choices, most are very expensive. If you go to 225/45/17's you have a nice choice, but that's all I need is a lower profile tire and even more wheel well showing. I will not upgrade the 17 inch rims, I like the way they look. I will not lower my ride, I have the 5 yr/100K warranty and do not want to void it. Any info would be helpfull, I want to purchase new tires asap.

Between Nittos and Michelin Pilot Sports, I say get the Michelins. They are $180 on tirerack.com, by the way. However, if youre already spending $180 per tire, I suggest Protenza S-03 tires ($150 on tirerack). They are maximum performance, ZR rated tires, and I can tell you from personal experience that they are amazing. Keep in mind that they wear quickly though. I am about to need new front tires for my maxima.

Bummer! Those tires aren't available in our size (225/50R17). The only choices available in the S-03s which can be SAFELY mounted on the stock 7"-wide SE rims are the 225/45R17 and the 225/55R17.

whats the widest tire you can put on stock 2k2 17x7 rims.Looking to go to 235/245 but do not want the tire to rub nor do I want to go to a lower profile because it will throw everything(spedo, odom, etc)out of wack.Or do I have to upgrade to a 7.5 rim for those sizes and will they fit without rubbing. Thanks for any advise and your time.

Yes. The minimum acceptable rim width for 235/45R17 and 245/45R17 tires from any manufacturer is 7.5". There are NO exceptions.

You know I'll tell you, we have had numerous posts about this topic. The tirerack.com probably has the lowest price available for the Michelins. Yes they are Z rated, yes they are $200 per tire, but no they are not going to wear out overnight. Stock Potenzas are the worst tires that I have ever had on a car. My answer is, didn't you, like the rest of us, drop serious $$$$ for your MAX? Why not spend the extra $$$ on the one and only mod(yes I did say mod) that will dramatically improve the quality of your car's handling. I got them, I luuuv them. I think i'd rather just get another set of Michelins, rather than upgrade the wheels when they wear out.
