Air Filter Replacement

Has anyone replaced their air filter (under the hood...not the in cabin microfilter) on a 2K2...easy procedure?

it shouldnt be any different than the 2k-2k1. just pop the two silver clips at the top and pull it back. the casing inside comes out and just pull out the old and put in the new. thats all there is to it.

And replace it with a K&N drop-in filter. You'll be glad you did. (I assume the 2K-2K1 K&N replacement filter will fit in a 2K2. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong about that.)

I purchased a k&n drop in for my 2k2 and it came with two foam pads to place around the stock holder for the filter. I don't know if that is normal on the 2k-2k1, but i ended up taking it out because the dealer said it screwed up my MAF. BULL**** IF YOU ASK ME

??

Have had 20K trouble free miles with the K&N I put in when there were only 150 miles on the car...not sure what would mess up the MAF, other than the over oiling of the filter issue posted in other threads...

And yes, the 2001 did need the foam 'spacers'...

K&N should only screw up MAF if it is over oiled. I've used mine for about 4000 miles now and have had no problems. I pulled the filter this week and there weren't any black particles behind the filter and the screen behind the filter was still shiny and golden in color.

yea i figured that it was over oiling on K&N's part because I took it out of the box and put it it. They are already oiled at the factory. But I didn't really care since nissan covered the new MAF under warranty. I am kinda hesitant about a CAI because I don't want to have to replace the MAF again, because I am afraid that Nissan will not cover it again. Any Suggestions?

Well, if you want a CAI but don't want Nissan to give you crap about it, you can always keep the stock setup to reinstall if you need to visit the dealer for engine service issues. I realize that's a real PITA, but I'm not sure that there's much else you can do.

Then there's the thorny question of how to explain away that huge hole in your fender that got left behind when you removed the CAI intake tube.

If you're concerned about installing a CAI, go with either an underhood intake (i.e, Stillen, JTW Popcharger, Frankencar, Berk Tuning, Weapon R, etc.) or modify your stock setup for an OSCAI.

what is OSCAI?
Do all CAI's for the max include cutting a hole in the fender?

OSCAI stands for Ooglie Stock Cold Air Intake. It's a modification that's done to the stock air scoop to allow for greater air flow. I'm not sure if it's possible to modify the air scoop in a 2K2 to adapt it for an OSCAI. Perhaps someone else could answer that question.

There is only ONE true Cold Air Intake on the market at this time for the 2K2 Maxima. It's made by a company called Place Racing, and it does require cutting a hole in the fender.

I got a Stealin inatke and am loving it, no problems. Lots, and I do mean lots pf org. members here have the frankencar, they seem to really like it. They also say that it has anice sound to it, my intake does not have one. We are very tough judges around here. It's safe to say its a good intake if everyone seems to be happy with it. I'd say go for it. Plus your supporting an org member.

Does anyone know if its possible to use the mid section or ram section from a cai or the frakencar intake if the stock box is still in place? i am wanting to get rid of the resonator and clean up the engine bay a little bit, but i wasnt sure if it was compatible or not. any ideas?
