Who else makes tires for the stock SE rims?

The only three kinds of tires I could find in the 225/50/R17 size are Bridgestone Potenzas (Original Tires), Nitto 450 (Tires I have now and hate! ) and Michelin.

I can't stand the Nitto's I have now and am thinking of getting new tires but want to keep the stock rims.

Anybody have any other kinds of tires on their stock rims?

im looking too...

because of the uncommon size, there isnt very much of a selection to choose from.

Bridgestone
Potenza RE92
Nissan
Size:225/50-17
High Performance All-Season
VR Speed Rated

Michelin
Pilot Sport A/S
Size:225/50-17
Ultra High Performance All-Season
WR Speed Rated

Michelin
Pilot HX MXM4
Size:225/50-17
Grand Touring All-Season
VR Speed Rated

and then theres the falken:

falken ziex s/tz-01
style and safety combined
P225/50-17

Falken Tire created the Ziex S/TZ specifically for light trucks and SUVs. Not only does the tire feature the stylish tread pattern so you can achieve maximum look for your truck, but they've managed to create the tire with high load carrying capacities - ensuring your safety as well. Going beyond looks and safety, this tire is one you can count on for up to 50,000 miles. And those two wide circumferential grooves move the water out of the way quickly and efficiently, avoiding dangerous hydroplaning.

***APPARENTLY THIS FALKEN TIRE ISNT HI-PERFORMANCE LIKE THE OTHER TIRES. KEEP THAT IN MIND***

i got this information from discounttire.com. im looking for new tires too for my 2k max se. i want to get 18" tires but bc they wont fit the stock rims i cant at the moment. i cant afford getting new rims + tires. heh. so yeah, its sucks!!!!!!

check out tirerack.com and discounttire.com and 1010tires.com for more information. i think you should check it out!

gl, and let me know what you decide to go with.

I've had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on for almost a week now. I think the handling on these is MUCH better than the stock RE92s. Before, when I shifted hard to 2nd gear, I would make a great chirp, now I can barely chirp at all.... Friday I'm going to the track and since I consistantly suck with my launches, we'll see if I can average better than my old 2.5 60' times. We had a lot of rain today and with my old tires I would accidentally peel out starting from a stop when its raining. But today I pulled out infront of a car and had to step on the gas HARD and I barely broke the tires loose. So basically I'm very pleased with the purchase so far.... Only down side I see so far is that these tires are slightly louder on highway speeds, but nothing big.

Thanks for the info guys.

I might have to splurge and get the Michelins when it comes time. When I was pricing tires last time these priced out at about $1200 installed. Does that sound about like the prices y'all have seen them for? Also, how loud are these tires? I know a 17" tire is going to have a little road noise, but these Nitto's I have now sound like a mud tire. That sound is fine if your driving a 4X4 but it is annoying in a Maxima!

You should be able to pick up the Michelins for around $200 a tire. Check out http://www.tirerack.com. And, of course, you could always opt to install tires in size 225/45R17. That would open up a world of possibilities in selecting tires. Just keep an eye on the load ratings with 225/45R17s.

I know the 225/45R17's would be the same width just a lower profile. Is there big difference in the profile? I'm thinking a little lower profile might look good because the 50 series tires almost seem to fill up the wheel well too much. If anybody has the 45 series tires, pics would be great!

Just stay with the stock dimensions, buy Michelins from tirerack.com, have them locally installed and come back and brag, brag, brag, brag. Trust me, you will be amazed at how much fun your car is to drive with these tires. They are the single most amazing mod that you can do to your car. Besides a SC, they are probablt the most expensive mod. Beyond the shadow of a doubt making your car very fun to drive. I don't know where people get the noise from, I do not notice any noise difference.

Nice choice. But not on stock SE rims.

I'm with rubman on this. If you want the best tires you can buy for your Maxima that are designed to fit properly on your OEM rims, go for the Michelins in size 225/50R17.

OK, I'll chime in for the Michelin Pilot A/S. TireRack sent me one bad tire so I got a nasty pull, but they immediately replaced it and now all is good.

The car corners great and the tires do not want to break free. If you think you like to accelerate hard now...wait to you put the Miches on.

$846 from tire rack including shipping
$100 for mount & balance

Also check locals. I think Merchants (NOVA) is having a special on Miches - buy three, get one free, plus free rotation.

I hope the choices open up when I'm ready for tires. I live in Florida and don't need "all-season" (read snow tires.)
I want something to displace water and handle good. I think that can only be accomplished by uni-directional tires. I just don't understand why manufactures aren't pushing them more. How many people swap tires left to right? IMHO all tires should be uni-directional.

Don't know anything about its performance or price , but Goodyear makes the Eagle GS-D in 225/50-17. V-rated.

You're right . . . at least according to the Goodyear web site:

http://www.goodyeartires.com/catalog...LEGSDSize.html

I wonder why Tirerack.com doesn't list them?
