My H&R's on stock Update.

Well, I have had my H&r's on for about 2 weeks. Alignment is done and all seems well now that Nissan fixed some components under warranty. The last 3-4 days, I have noticed the car has a more bouncy effect going over waves in the road.....You know, small hills....I cant think of a better way to explain it. Is this normal? I know the springs needed to settle, and when they do the ride does becomes a bit software, I was just wondering to what length? Can anyone else share the experince?

Thanks.

i've heard of this, I don't have those springs but I believe the bouncy effect is called the "POGO effect"...my Pontiac grand prix had that when I switched over to eibachs. Unfortunately I lived with it...maybe someone here can help you find a fix.

So do all springs have this? Do you have to switch the shocks to get rid of it?

Lowering springs do two things: reduce suspension travel, and increase spring rate.

Stock shocks are meant for soft dampening and rebound, and longer suspension travel.

when you combine lowering springs with stock shocks, you get bounce.

Solution: get aftermarket shocks with stiffer dampening and rebound to compensate for greater spring rate and reduced travel. Tada, less bounce.

I think replacing the springs without doing the shocks is like rebuilding only 3 of the 6 cylinders.......Why would you do it?

I guess for a all show no go car.

Big reason why people dont, is because name one good shock for the max? Tokico? KYB? The tokico's fail, cause they work like stock, and the KYB's, even the AGX's are just bottom of the barrel. If a good shock was out, I wouldnt hesitate to buy.

What does formulated mean? Is this different from the standard AGX adjustable?

Maybe I should use the word "modified" hehe, he had to alter the mounting plates to fit the 5th gen. Emax has them and loves them. I think they run $450 for the set. I plan on getting them.

Are the KYB GR2s out for the 5th gen yet? I heard summer of this year they were suppossed to be released and I checked the KYB website, but they didn't have any info on it. They would work good wouldn't they, but just not adjustable right?

I have read that the slightly less-aggressive drop of the Maxspeed springs allows for the use of stock shock/struts. Any comments from experience?

It would make more sense, but in the end, a more balanced suspension would be ideal. I'm waiting for 5th gen AGX's.

That is the reason why I am planning to install H&Rs on my car using stock shocks too. I don't think there are any good shocks available for Maxima.
I used to have Tokicos blue on my 95 Maxima with H&Rs and Tokicos sucked pretty bad. I hated them.
Plus, I think stock shocks already made by Tokico.

Also I have a question, people who have H&Rs on stock shocks on 5gen Maxima, especially 2002. Any problems? Noises, etc..

Thanks.

Dany, I agree completely with what u have said. The choices we have with dampners is crap at best. 10 spring makers and 2 shock makers. Koni, Bilstein, why can't u help us!!!

I emailed Koni last night

RJ,

The 2000 Maxima is one of the cars we are developing shocks for in Europe but there is currently no time frame on when something will become available (but I would guess fall at the earliest). Thanks for writing.

Gordon

I emailed them again asking whether or not this would fit the US Max. We'll see. Don't know if this is going to lead to anything but it doesn't hurt.

RJ,

>will the struts that you are developing for the Maxima in Europe work with
>the US Maxima?

We will be confirming the fit and ride of the inserts that Europe develop for us to make sure that they will work on the US cars. Thanks for writing.
