Windshield chips

Ok Ok .. maybe I am not the first, but I don't want to be the only one tha pi$$ with nissan paint and windshield quality.
yep I got them again yesterday.. windshield chips.. yes not 1 but 2 spots next to each other.. I am not sure how much is going to cost me to fix this chips there are 3 options that I am looking at, give me your opinions please.

1. Go to wallmart and get the windshield chips fix kit for less than $10 with no waranty on repair.
2. Go to the specialist windshield repair and spend $50-$80
3. Replace the whole windshield and add the 3M permashield like the window film for at least $500 (my deductible is high)

If you were me and you are broke.. what would you do?
I am pi$$ with nissan paint and glass quality.. but the engine is great.

Thank people

The windshield pits are indeed a mystery. I am experiencing no paint problems with my ' 02 Maxima SE. I have one very small rock pit on the hood and one on the right headlight lens. BUT, at last count I have 12 small pits on the windshield. How the windshield could be pelted like this without pitting the front of the car is a mystery to me.

I usually don't complain about my Maxima, but this is one area that bothers me. I've had two chip incidents, the most recent occurring last week. The good news is, however, that my insurance company (USAA) sends a local glass specialist to my home or work to fix them for free. The fix takes less than 20 minutes. They encourage this rather than have the crack grow where the whole windshield would have to be replaced at their cost, less any comprehensive deductible.

Re: Windshield chips

I had 5 windshield chips in my '95 max. I got two of them filled for $25 bucks a piece, and the repair dude came to my house to do it, very convienent. The ones that I got filled, you could barely tell the were there (only when you were washing the car) or if you looked really hard. The only time I would suggest replacing you windshield is if you have cracks(large ones, that render your vision)

peace

Why not go to the specialis windshield and have your insurance pay the 50-80 for repair? Many insurance companies waive your deductable for chip and star repairs.

Re: Windshield chips

wat's ur deductible? I think normally for comprehensive is 250 or 100.....mine was 100. Windshield crack is not part of the collision deduct. Anyways, u better seal it fast....I have seen my friend's cracked all the way after getting a chip.

Nissan's paint and windhshield are just soft as cheese cake....for my hood and bumper, I always keep the bra on....but I cant do anyhting for the windshield.

Get the $0 deductible guys & you won't have to worry about the cost to repair. Mine was like $6 extra per month. Worth it IMHO, cause I had someone break my window in my 2k Blazer, and $150 out of my pocket did not make me happy.

I don't have any woodchips thus far, but more paint chips than my 2-year old Blazer had.

Re: Windshield chips

Here's my windshield of woe story:

On first drive after purchasing car got a big chip on lower passenger side. Got it fixed at "Windshield Surgeon" for $35 Cdn. I learned at that time that you can get 3 chips fixed for the price of 2. Over the next 10 months I got 2 more chips. One was on lower driver side, the other on the upper passenger side. Being the cheap bast@rd that I am, I was waiting for a third chip to get the deal. Temperatures here in Calgary dropped down to sub -30 degrees. As the heater kicked in blowing hot air on that -30 degree window, the lower chip spread out into a crack covering the whole bottom of the window. It's $400 Cdn to replace. I suggested I am willing to pay more for a better windshield but was told it doesn't matter who I order from in Canada because they will all use the exact same windshield manufacturer.

Morale of story: get this friggin' chips fixed ASAP!

My question: Anyone know where I can get a better windshield?

That bites for all you guys

In Mass your winshield is 100% covered with comprehensive. So I dont really care if it has to be replaced 100 times. Plus I have a good friend that works for a glass company. He does awesome work and I trust him with my baby.....

I doubt if your insurance company would keep you after 100 claims.

In California, a broken windshield is covered under the Comprehensive portion of the policy. But it is subject to the deductible. I had to have a TWO cracked windshields replaced in my wife's 2K GXE in a six week period. It cost me $100.00 per windshield.

Over the years I have heard lots of horror stories about problems related to windshield replacement. I would imagine that past problems have been resolved in recent years. How is the quality of windshield replacement these days ? Is the fit and seal factory quality ? What about glass quality ? On the GXE replacement did your installer order the windshield thru Nissan in order to get the exact replacement size and design ? Or did you use your Nissan dealer's body shop ?

Try some 000 steel wool with lots of water. This will get rid of a lot of the small nicks and pits.Just keep the wool super wet and do not rub hard ,just enought presure to hold the wool between your hand and the glass. When your done it will look like your windsheild has vanished.
