Test drove 2002 SE Auto

Fantastic car, loads of power, fun to drive. List price was 30,700 everything but Nav I think. Dealer has offered 18,950 for my 2000 GLE with 15,000 miles and wants another 11,750 in cash. I can get another 1,000 off if paying with cash making it 10,750 is this deal ok or can the dealer move some more. Im thinking around 9,500 plus the car. Anyone go shopping lately? Thanks

Re: Test drove 2002 SE Auto

you should be able to get that car for around 28k

i personally paid $29,100 for my 2k2 6-speed with everything except navigation and i have found that i paid more than almost everyone. kloogy got his car for $29,700 i think but his car has everything INCLUDING navigation (a $2000 option)

I THINK that nissan is still offering $1000 cash back for all maxima purchases so dont let your dealer tell you its only if you pay with cash. instead of taking the $1000 cash back you are also given good financing options. it used to be 3.9% but it may have changed. some people even got the $1000 off AND 3.9% financing.

if they are giving you $18,950 for your trade in then i think you should pay no more than around $9500 on top of that. (prior to the $1000 rebate that nissan is offering...assuming they still are offering it. you might want to check on that by calling 1-800-NISSAN1)

I think you should be able to get more for your trade. I looked at the NADA wholesale price on my car the other day. I have a 2000 SE with 55,000 miles and the wholesale on mine was $18,000. Since you only have 15,000 miles on yours, you can probably get more. Check out www2.nadaguides.com.

Given your trade + the cash required equals the list price that you quoted?? You should definently be able to take $1000 to $1500 off the sticker price WITHOUT having to pay cash. Paying cash should even get you a better deal.

Go in there on your terms and act like you could care less about buying that car. Make them chase after you.

Don't forget to negotiate a good APR, too if you plan to finance. That interest really adds up.

Hope this helps.

Checkout CarsDirect.com

If I were you, I would price the vehicle at Carsdirect.com, print it out and take it into the dealership to negotiate from there. "Why should I buy this car from you rather than CarsDirect.com?"

I checked it out and for everything except Nav (including traction control system, Meridian Package, side airbags, spoiler, sunroof deflector) you could get that car from www.carsdirector.com for $26,780.

I got $1K under invoice AND 3.9% finance on my SE with 6spd. I heard radio ads this weekend (in Phoenix) for $2K off of invoice or 3.9% finance.

NOW IS THE TIME TO BUY A 2K2 BUT MAKE THEM MEET YOUR PRICE!

Good luck!

I got mine for 27.5K with the 0.9% financing... so I think you can still work with the dealer somewhat... I'd try that first... tell them about other offers you've gotten from other dealers... whether its true or not, he'll never know... I told him I had 27K flat, but the guy didn't have the car in stock... we worked a little bit on it and then we finally settled. Good luck!

I'm sure it has alot to do with where you live. In Cleveland, these loaded Maximas are ~$30K...and they don't like to budge.

GET THE 6-SPEED!

You will burn a little clutch at first learning, but you will be able to get it loaded for $27k and you will learn the true fun of a sports sedan with total control.

That's why my last two cars have come from suburban MD. Got my Max last weekend for $300 under invoice, not including the additional $1000 back. Drive a hard bargain; the Altimas are seriously eating into Maxima sales.

Cheers.
