Who else has had the 30K mile service done?

And how much did it cost?

I went to get a few issues addressed on my Maxima over the weekend. I told them that the transmission is slipping when it is cold. They tell me that I need to get the 30K mile service done (I am at 34,400 Mi) before Nissan will "ok" anything being done to the transmission. The service entails changing tranny fluid, engine coolant (and other things I can't remember) for about $325.

I also told them that I have a rattle in the middle of the dash around the clock. When I touch the left side of the clock the rattle stops. They then tell me that rattles and squeeks are only covered for 12 months and 12,000 miles!!!! Does anyone know if this is true?

I had the 30k service done for about $280. I don't know if it's only in my head but my car felt more responsive and smoother after. If your dealer says that you need the 30k service done before they'll work on your transmission, just tell them you had it done elsewhere or that you did it yourself. You can do most of the 30k service in your own garage. Or try a different dealer.

I had the 30K done at 34000 miles from a private mechanic, not the dealership who was trying to charge me $460!!!! My mechanic (who used to work at a dealership) originally quoted me $195 including all dealer parts but ended up taking only $140 from me.

I have a friend who works in the service dept for a car dealership and the only thing you are paying for is the expensive labor. I would suggest asking around for a trusty private mechanic and saving yourself some $$$.

And yes, maybe it's in my head too, but I did feel like the car was running more smoothly. If you ever want to sell your car in the future, it would help if you could claim you did all the regular maintenance....or if you're handy...just do it yourself!!
