Almost got into an accident yesterday, I was goin about 40 mph on wet road, and almost couldn't brake at all. Max brake sux. I remember that ppl bring it back to dealers to have them fix a while ago. What should I tell the dealer about this problem? Just rotor wrapped or what?

thanx

Actually.. I respectfully disagree... In my opinion the Maxima's brakes are awesome, and I would never buy another car without anti-lock brakes (they have already saved me at least once)..

I used to drive an 85 buick, so it might quite possibly be the contrast between the two cars...

But on a wet road once, some jerk merging in from a complete stop decided to make up his mind JUST as i got to the island.... (it was 1 lane, with cement sides and no shoulder, so i couldn't go anywhere other than straight into him) Naturally I slammed on the brakes, and stopped approx 1 ft away from his car... (musta been going about 45mph).. If i were in the buick [the brakes were done recently, so it's not the age], I woulda slammed into him at an easy 25mph..

Just my two cents...

I gotta disagree too...

Some big HUGE Expedition pulled out of a parking spot without looking today... well, he looked when he heard screeching tires. He was pulled out but stopped. I almost nailed him @ about 35mph. I stopped within inches of his passenger door. I got out looked and he asked if we had hit... I said "no, I guess you can go on.. you seem to be in a pretty big hurry!" He then drove off sheepishly at about 10mph for as many blocks as I could see him go.

if your brakes arent emptying your pockets and leaving seat belt marks on your chest then you should have them looked at. Mine are grabby like glue. it could be something more serious.

What was the symptoms of "almost couldn't brake at all"?
Did the car swereve? (Need to have the ABS checked) Did the tires break contact? (Not brakes fault, look at the tires) Not to question you abilities, but did you hold the brakes firmly? (Not everyone has had ABS before and many braking problems stem from old advise of "pump the brakes - do not stand on the pedal)

Warped rotors should give a vibration or shudder, not necessarily an inability to stop.

since your car has ABS the pedal is supposed to vibrate. Its perfectly normal, hell I would trade my non abs brakes for yours anyday. Then again maybe not .

From what I understand, that's supposedly normal.. (i experienced it to a certain degree with my hard stop)..

You should "hear" and "feel" the ABS working... (according to the manual, if i recall correctly)

Too much vibration might be a prob. tho...

Good brakes

I know the brakes have saved my *** many a times on the rural roads in Missouri. Where I live we have many deer....and my advise to you....if you see a deer in the road and think you might be able to swerve to miss it..try it! But! If you dont hit the deer and crash the max....it is gonna be your ***. I usually stomp on the brakes and have never lost control of the car. I do not try to out manuever the deer.

Re: funny

I guss this is a me too story. I gunned it from a red light tryimg to beat a city bus around a corner, and got cut off by a chick who promptly stoppd to let the bus by. I swear if the put another coat of paint I would have toched here. In fact I've never heard my tire scream when appling the abs brake.. And I've actually tested them at about 15 mph
