I watched this race that had vipers, corvettes, civics, tiburon, Lexus GS400's and firebirds..... You name it they had it.

The Gs400 won the class that it was in. Are those cars better than a 5 speed max. I was kind of disappointed to see that there were no nissan cars there.

Pretty cool racing....it was neat to see somewhat stock cars on a tough course.

That was a Motorola Cup series race, a development of the old IMSA Firehawk series. They run four classes which is why there is such a variety of cars. The cars are heavily equalized within their classes but not modofied much more than SCCA IT cars. For example - the Lexi run against Integra type R's - so how does a V8 compete with a 4? The Lexi have to weigh about 3200 lb and have to use the auto trans they came with - the Integras weigh about 2300 and have an alternate final drive ratio. A y2k Maxima joined the series about halfway through the season, also in that same class (ST), at about 2700lb, so far it is still undergoing development both in the car and in the rule allowances it needs to be competitive.

Only 2700lbs? That light!

What did they do to shave off 500lbs? I can't imagine the performance of a 2K Maxima with only 2700lbs!

Seats, AC, stereo, spare, no extra options, strip out some of the interior and sound deadening material - I figure that might be a few hundred right there.

Speaking of speedvision...

I was watching speedvision late the other night. They were comparing all the tightest European sedans. They had an Audi S4, MB CLK turbo diesel, an M5, and a Saab. Man, those were some sweet cars. Especially the M5 and the S4. It just made me want to get an M5 even more

2700lbs is the legal minimum - I suspect that the team is still working on getting the car that light - don't forget - they have to add a full cage. The rules also now allow them a brake upgrade from Nissan - not sure what that is. They will probably become competitive this season - the other guys have at least 1 year r&d time on them.

Speedvision is a channel by itself......24 hrs a day motor related stuff. It's on cable, so if you don't have it, I guess you can call your cable provider....
