Clears Legal?

Any lenses that you put on a car in VA must have D.O.T. stamped on them; does anyone know if the clears that custommaxima sells has this stamp?

Thanks,

T

No, they don't. It even say's on the box "for show or offroad use only". Use at your own risk, blah blah blah. I however would not worry about it. As long as you keep the bulb in there yellow, the cop shouldn't really care...unless he's a spaz and looking to nail you for something.

So many clear markers ARE DOT approved that I doubt a cop would really waste his time checking to see if the ones on the maxima are or aren't.

Thanks; the reason I ask is because my friend discoved this LAW when he failed VA inspection; I guess I could hold onto the stock covers when it's inspection time

The DOT only recognizes items which meet an SAE certified color and "clear" was never certified. Only Amber and Red are certified, so no luck. Just in case the typical follow-up question comes along...the SAE has never certified a bulb color of any sort.

Search on other threads on this topic, by my name...there have been a few in more detail.

They are not street legal, even with yellow bulbs, but unless you are drawing attention from the cop for something else like a very loud sound system or excessive speeding, no cop should ever pull you over for them... But you won't pass inspection, make sure you switch back to stock once a year for that. Takes 5 min...

VA inspection? So it's a state law that they inspect your vehicle every so often???

YUP! Good ol' VA Inspection! A STRICT safety inspection is required once a year and they check everything; in addition to the safety inspection, in the counties close to DC, an emissions inspection is required. Therefor, most exhaust mods are going to be a problem. I may go with the clears; changing them once a year cannot be too harsh
