Maxima's new enemy- Passat W8?

I see these ads on TV, and it kinda sucks, there's more competition from VW. On the other hand, they may have an image problem, the same car is offered with a 4-banger, V6, and a W8? What are they trying to do, make their own Rolls Royce?

Had anyone seen this car on the road yet, test-driven, raced against?

Test drove one a few days ago... They are pretty damn nice. A bit small but in terms of performance it will kill my Maxima.

All-Wheel Drive
4.0L 270 hp / 273 lb-ft torque

ya...

I was just wondering about this car the other day. I would love to see performance numbers on this. I guess when you walk into VW, you can actually order a Passat, and have it SUPERSIZED !

I just don't like the idea of them having to change the entire engine design just to get it to fit into a V6 bay... Kind of halfassed upgrading if you ask me.

But the performance is there. The price is high though.

oh yeah, how much is it $$? This car is too small to against other V8 like GS400 and Q45. If they're targeting high 20's-low 30's, this one is going to attract far more buyers that G35. I would hate to be run over some stinkin Passat.

The W8, good numbers buy aren't they much heavier? Any ideas? I don't really like the looks of the Passat. The GTI and Jetta look better IMO.

Dude, with an MSRP of $38,450.... that hardly makes the W-8 an enemy! That pushes it in to a completely new category. Especially since you can buy a 2k2 GLE w/255HP for $25,000.

TL-S could be considered an enemy. But 330i & W-8 are just in another category altogether. But if I can whoop them both, then I'll make an exception!

In the new european car they have an article about a super charger for the jetta's vr6. It put down about 270hp and tq, I think. Wouldnt that work in the passat. I spen a few months in europe last summer and rode in a lot of passats that were desil. I lvoed them, nice firm suspention, great looking interiors, and quick. It made me wish I got a passat 4cyl turbo and chiped it instead of the maxima.

The W8 is the sh*t. It'll sure smoke me, but the price puts it in another category as far as I'm concerned. I'm sure if I put the excess 20k on top of what I payed for my maxima, I could compete.

Well, it looks like we cant call them "*****-*****" andymore.

The W8 isn't as great as most of you guys are saming. I hate to mag racer but I think either MT or C&D tested one not too long ago and came away unimpressed saying it wasn't much better than the new VR6. I have yet to drive one, so who knows. Gosh, with all these new cars I need to hit up the dealers and start test driving them to see how they do.
